This place is awesome! Personally I just love the outside seating area. The patio is dog friendly and that makes me happy right from the get go. Service is spot on with a very attentive but not annoying manner. The food is amazing!!!!!! I had the scallops and my husband had pork chops, both were a out of the ball park hit. I could go on, but I think my message is pretty darn clear. Go here, you will not be sorry.

What a warm and welcoming place; we felt right at home! The food was outstanding. My husband had the bay scallops and they were superb! I had the vegetable thaly plate, exactly what I wanted. Perfectly rounded flavor combinations. We both had the farro salad, which was excellent. The vibe is "your favorite neighborhood place." Good wine choices to top it off, along with coconut cream pie. Highly recommend!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The halibut and rack of lamb were cooked to perfection. Service was very good as well. Highly recommend it.

We returned to Friday Harbor this year and returned to the Backdoor Kitchen for dinner. It was even better this year. Last time there was a large group that affected our experience. My wife and I shared a Ceasar salad and a delightful rose. My wife had the Lamb chops which were perfectly cooked and I had the cod special. The cod was light and lovely on a bed of corn. We finished off with port and desert. What a nice meal served at a proper pace.

Booked for our anniversary dinner. There are two parking lots so depending on where you park, you'll enter either through the front or the back. We shared the pork meatballs with sticky rice and ordered the Thali platter and the lingcod. Also had a bottle of wine. They will accommodate you as possible. We were seated outdoors with an umbrella near a heat lamp in case it got chilly out. I prefer to eat al fresco as much as possible. after dinner, we had one of their chocolate mousse pie specials. Great food. Great service for a Friday night!

This place is a bit off the beaten path, but the fantastic new brewery is just across the parking lo. The entrance is through a garden that has tables tucked into little patios. The main dining area inside is artsy, and the bar is cozy. The food is very good and nicely presented. I had tha marinated lamb, she had the scallops. We both commented on the presentation and care in preparation, the perfect vegetables and her rice cakes were fantastic. This is not fast food, they take time to make it right and that takes a bit longer. We just enjoyed the ambience, the friendly staff, and sipped our drinks. We will be back.

We have eaten here several times over the past years. This visit was a disappointment. The restaurant was so noisy that we could not enjoy the company of our companions. Perhaps on a warmer night the outside seating would be advisable. The food though good, was not exceptional. Scallops were small but well seasoned and tasty. The rice cakes were bland and I didn't finish eating mine. For a restaurant that charges so much, how can they use paper napkins? Someone else mentioned the rough service, and though everything was pleasant this time, in the past we have experienced rude and rather arrogant behavior.

This hidden Jem is literally quite hidden (read hard to find) but worth your effort. We had the best Farro salad followed by a local white fish that was out of this world. Romantic atmosphere but also a spot with small groups of friends. Don't miss this treat.

We were only in Friday Harbor for one night (a Wednesday) and on a recommendation made a booking late afternoon for that night, we managed to get a table at the time wanted, which was a good start. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty busy, with a couple of open tables in the garden and as the weather wasn't particularly warm, we were relieved when our table was inside near the bar. It was a little noisy and cramped in the bar area which made conversation a little hard especially as we don't like to shout at each other! Luckily the other tables around us were finishing off, so by the time the food arrived, the noise levels were fine. The menu was interesting without being extensive and choices were soon made. Gin cocktails as a pre-dinner tipple, Vietnamese meatballs and Corn masa cake followed by vegetarian curry platter and Pork Chops. All were delicious and flavourful, especially the Pork chop which was cooked to perfection. We had no room for desert. Wines were a little on the pricey side, but we plumped for a local San Juan red, which was reasonably priced and matched the food well. It was the most expensive dinner we had during our trip to WA but saying that, it was definitely the tastiest and a welcome change to standard american food. I'd give this 4.5 stars rather than 4 as service was good (the bar tender was great) but other staff were rushed and not especially friendly.

This is a great hidden restaurant in Friday harbor. A bit on the pricy side, but the quality of the food was outstanding. My new special occasion spot in Friday harbor (sorry Duck Sou

2 recent visits to this established local restaurant. We sat outdoors on both times as both were during the summer. The restaurant was very busy on both occasions. The first experience was quite pleasant with good scallop and pork chop entrees. Service was attentive and prompt. The second experience was quite a contrast- a reservation for 5 at 8:30 PM resulted in a seating at 9:30 after multiple inquiries and poor response. finally , there was a need to be brusque which resulted in what can be best described as a "not my problem" response from the "gentleman" server. Ultimately, seated in the dark with a few mini candles- needed the light on the phone to read the menu!! Scallops again decent (order by 3), ahi with shrimp was bland(1 order), and the saAld (ordered by 1) tasteless. So OK food and nasty service. A so-so experience at a MEGA MEGA MEGA price!!!! Travelers -caveat emptor- the are really NO 4 or 5 star places here even though the prices in general certainly are in that range.

My husband, daughter and I had an absolutely delicious meal in the outdoor seating area. The food is fresh, creative, and very good. We would definitely return.

We had a fabulous dinner at the Backdoor Kitchen, which is in a lovely garden setting around the back of a an undistinguished building. The food was interesting and tasty, the service was prompt and pleasant, and live music enhanced the experience.

We were glad our whale watching guide told us about this place. Unique menu and ambiance, very enjoyable dinner. Be sure you make a reservation, they sell out quickly.

Poor service. Lack of attention by staff to customers. Food quality very disappointing. Highly overpriced for low quality food and sub par staff.

Recommended by our hotel, we were very glad we went! The outdoor patio is charming - but make a reservation if you want to sit there. Food was excellent and the service was very good.

We had a great meal here. Adorable little restaurant in the middle of town. Nice selection of wines and great cocktails. I had a cumin scented southwest style pork chop that was fantastic. My wife had a local salmon dish over sweet corn succotash. Wonderful. It can get chilly in the garden , so if that bothers you, ask for an inside table.

Came into San Juan island on Saturday around 6:30, right in time for our reservation at the Backdoor Kitchen. The settings of the outdoor seating is beautiful and very cozy. Even with how cold the air temperature was, it was still pleasant to sit outside. The wait for the food was SOOOO long. But that seems to be a standard for the island, as every other place we went to was also a 45 min wait (at least). I ordered the scallops and they were very good, and came with greens. But the serving was quite small and I left a bit hungry. My wife had another dish and she liked it quite a bit. The desert menu was lacking. Staff is very friendly and nice. I also observed one of the staff bring (their own) coat to a customer, because the lady was cold. That is very nice. About half way though our time at the restaurant, a man came and played guitar. It was nice to have live music, and it was not loud or annoying.

Truth be told, we got lost trying to find the "Backdoor". Once we found it, we were seated in their pleasant patio and enjoyed a very leisurely meal. We shared dishes to enjoy a tasting of many things - some Asian/India-like dishes included. We really enjoyed the evening. In fact, we closed down the place - although a few people lingered in the bar.
