This place has great people, great food, great setting. 5 stars for food, six stars for staff, one star for indoor comfort. Just a failure on HVAC. On an 85 degree night, it was over 95 degrees inside. I feel sorry for the employees. The solution is not hard. They blame it on the pizza oven. Either it is unvented, or someone just doesn't understand. There are thousands of 850 degree pizza oven restaraunts in the USA that are comfortable inside. The pizza sauce is worth going for. The wines are first rate and they have a staff that is super comitted. The al fresco dining is great even in the rain. Someone just needs to fix this AC issue and this place would dominate the trade. Just do it.

Nice corner restaurant on Santone and13th. Curbside outdoor eating is lovely, hopefully not too many people walking by and staring at your food. Shared a Caesar salad and fettuccine in a homemade bolognese sauce. Nice big chunks of meat(veal), tasty too. Shared thin crust margheirita pizza. Not a crumb left. Hubby had the local kleinersky(?) beer and I the local seasonal beer. Both very good. Though the streets were packed, we got lucky and got an outdoor table right away. Service is a bit on the slow side, it was a cool night, but lovely to be out on.

I live in NY but I think this was among the best pizza I've ever eaten. We got a pork pizza and a chorizo pizza and shared the lamb meat balls and ricotta with slices of pizza dough for dipping. We sat outside at a high top table, which was a great place to people watch. We even had a group of percussion street musicians entertain us. Great spot. Highly recommend!

Walking distance down Safe streets at night. Cozy intimate place. Pizza was SO fresh it was amazing and cooked in front of you in the oven! Had some roasted cauliflower too - excellent with their buffalo sauce. Roasted brussels sprouts were good too but needed more flavor. Good selection of drinks. Their mojito was probably the best I have ever had!! So glad we read reviews and tried this place. Closed at 10pm on Sunday.

I sat by the outside window on a high top so I felt like I was outside. All the outside tables were taken. The waitress was wonderful. I had a glass of wine which she let me try before hand so it was nice that she wanted me to get the perfect one. I had the Caesar Salad which was good and the Eggplant Parmesan which was excellent. I almost went back the second night for that dish again. All the food looked good that I saw come out. It is a busy place but they seem to get you in and they try very hard to please.

We stopped in early for dinner (small plates) and were delighted with what we found. The menu has a good selection of appetizers, pizzas, pastas, and wines. We ordered both of the happy hour menu (pizza margherita, meatballs, rosemary flatbread with riccota) and the regular menu (gnocchi, kale caesar salad). Everything was quite reasonably priced, and everything was VERY good. The service was excellent; our server greeted us immediately, got the three of us who'd arrived first our drinks, returned promptly when our fourth arrived, and took and delivered our orders efficiently. A huge and lovely bar dominates the room as you enter, giving way to groupings of tables that are placed so as to allow some sense of privacy. The wines were great; so too the beer. There's a full bar if one wishes to indulge. All in all, a great discovery in University City.

Visited recently with three others while in the area for work. We were looking for good food, with out it costing a fortune or taking forever in some over priced Italian restaurant. We definitely found it Zavino's !!!! The homemade ricotta appt was out of this world good - light with just a touch of honey for sweetness and fresh herbs. Wow. Then, the pizzas came - perfectly cooked and incredibly fresh and flavorful toppings. Our server, Jesse, was friendly and patient. Best of all, she didn't let us order too much food (we almost did, but she stopped us and suggested we just add more later on if we wanted it). Great food. Great server. Good prices. Definitely recommend.

We stopped in over the weekend and enjoyed it. It's a nice casual place. The bar offers wine, beer and cocktails. The kitchen offers small plates, pizza, cheese and meats. We had the Margherita pizza and it was very good. You could taste how fresh the cheese was. The prices are fair and wine is priced by the half glass/glass. I'm looking forward to stopping back for a glass of wine and the tasting board of meats and cheeses. The place was very clean and the staff was nice. It's located at the corner of 13th and Sansom, a fun area with lots of restaurants. They don't take reservations but you can call on your way and they'll add you to the system. My only complaint is that it was a bit too warm they need a better AC/Fan system especially in the booth near the front door where the fans don't hit you.

We really enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and snacks at the rustic attractive bar of Zavino. The meat and cheese boards and salads are prepared to order up front, and everything coming out of the pizza oven looked great. Only wish we had returned for a light dinner instead of traveling elsewhere. Oh well, next time.

Wanted a healthy salad and found this fabulous restaurant! Every bite was full of Fresh Flavor! Also had a wonderful pizza with fresh basil on top. The crust was so tasty also. Great place to eat, and drink wine when you visit philly!

I dined with a local friend in Philadelphia. He recommended Zavino's for a Saturday morning brunch/lunch. We shared a salad of arugula, quinoa & raw asparagus dressed with balsamic vinegar, and Kennett Pizza made of oven roasted crimini, shiitake & oyster mushrooms, mozzarella, béchamel sauce, roasted onions & rosemary. We were hungry and this was tasty from the first bite. We sat in a secluded booth by the front door so didn't get whipsawed by the energy of weekend brunchers.

We had some bread and a ricotta dip. It was delicious! The pizza was also really good. We went in for some drinks, but we couldn't resist the food. They have a great local beer selection.

This was the second time stopping here while in the city. Loved it both times. Great food and drinks..you can't really go wrong with any of the options. The space is cozy. They have a nice outdoor seating area if the weather is nice.

We ordered by phone and picked up our pizza to go. The people where friendly even at midnight. We took the pizza back to our room and if I'd known it was going to be that good I would have gotten two. We got a pepperoni pizza and it had great spice and little kick to it.

What a great shrimp pasta! The preparation was quite unique and amazing in taste. I could feel the flavors clearly. The shrimp was so tender, all of same size, and cooked to right amount without compromising the taste and juice. It is an upscale fine dining restaurant with good options on its drinks and dinner menu. The staff is great. If the weather is pleasant you may also want to try their open seating. The only drawback I see is the very limited portion size per dish, so you may have to order some extra if you want to have full meal. However, some of the dishes might be heavy so smaller quantity may also work just fine. You gotta try this one out.
