No trip to Portland is complete without a visit to the Salt & Straw. It's a popular place, so be prepared to wait a 1/2 hr or so. They are known for their unusual flavors such as Bone Marrow - no thanks! I chose a more normal flavor and it was delightful. Also the neighborhood has a great vibe. Go!

As I make my own ice creams back home, I’m always looking for weird but extraordinary new flavors. Salt and Straw doesn’t have a whole lot of flavors to choose from, but boy, do they taste well! I know I’ll be hunting down them recipes, so I can make some more back home :)

I can't be in Portland without passing by "Salt & Straw". My favorite order from the classics is "Almond Brittle w/ Salted Ganache". I can't describe its awesomeness. Simply it's divine. You can try to taste different flavors every time you go there, but never ever miss this place.

Ice cream is my favorite "treat" and I am pretty picky. I couldn't decide which flavor(s) to pick and the staff at Salt & Straw are amazingly accommodating and patient! I only tried 2 or 3 flavors, but I saw a guy try 6 or more before making up his mind! I settled on the peanut brittle with chocolate ganache. It was SO good!

This is the place to try unusual combinations of ice cream flavors that you never thought of. Like rhubarb crumble with anise (seasonal). A favorite is salted caramel. The flavors change all year, so it's good to heck on line to see what's available. It tends to get very busy especially on weekends. It's definitely worth a visit.

I recommend giving it a try. It was delicious with smoked cherries. But the Lavendar n honey really blew me away. Mix up your flavores be spontaneous its more than just Vanilla. Waiting wasnt bad since your outdoors taking in the cool temps n changing colors . Try it, u will love it!

Every person we asked; where is a good spot to go to?... they always mentioned this place. So we had to see what the hype was about. It didn't disappoint. Amazing ice cream! Flavors are unique. There was a little bit of a line but goes quick. A nice street to stroll down. As I sit here writing about it; i want to go back and try the other flavors. Yum!

I looked for Salt & Straw on my last vacation at one of there other locations and couldn't find parking and the line was out the door. This trip we found the Alberta location and it was well worth finding. The staff lets you try as many flavors as you would like which works well since they are known for their unusual combination. Take a chance and taste them. We tried Bone Marrow and Cherry, Hapricot, and several others before settling on a flight. A chance to have small servings of four different flavors. We had so much fun and got so full that it was like an adventure. Go, it's fun ( and yummy)!

Very helpful staff allow you to try as many of the unusual flavour combinations as you want before you make a decision on what to have. The pear and blue cheese flavour was lovely! Huge portions make it good value.

We tried 4 different flavors and 2 of them were really good. We waited for almost 1 hour to get our ice cream b'coz of long line. It's good ice cream but it's not worth waiting 1 hour.......

we went around 7:30 on a Friday night and anticipated a long wait. There was a wait - out the door when we arrived - but only took about 15-20 minutes to get through the line and was so worth it. The staff were super efficient, knowledgeable, and gotta love the unlimited samples while waiting. the smell of the fresh-made waffle cones also makes this line seem to be more tolerable. would recommend if your looking for a touristy treat in the city!

We were some of the last customers of the night (11 PM) and the line still went out the door! They allow you to sample as many flavors as you like. Really unique flavors (including 3 types of chocolate while we were there). Sample a few--I was surprised I liked the cinnamon the best.

The title says it all. When you read the ingredients in their ice cream flavors, you immediately think to yourself 'How can that possibly be good?' However, if you can get past that and dive in for a taste, you will be very pleasantly surprised. Highly, highly recommend!!

If you are a tourist and enjoy waiting an hour for average, though unusual, ice cream in a gimmicky, overpriced, over-hyped ice cream shop, this is your place!

We stopped on a Thursday evening after a day of tiring hiking. We're disappointed to find a long line out the door, and decided to buy a couple of pints. Wanted a taste of a few, so we ended up with 3 pints. Not the cheapest, but it was really good. Hear they have a tasting option that would be way better. I like that they have several unique flavors.

We came to this specific location as we were told this one would have a shorter line - it was still around the block when we arrived but it was quite hot out and a nice cool treat seemed appropriate. Great selection of unique flavors and they don't have any qualms about trying multiple ones. Downside - cone options are sugar and waffle, no cake/wafer cones. It is worth it to stop in and get at least a scoop if in Portland, just be prepared to wait a little while.

Delicious! I had the salted caramel and my son got the pear blue cheese. Both were outstanding. Enjoyed the friendliness and manner of service. The line wasn't long in the early afternoon mid week.

This is some of the best ice-cream I have ever tasted, and I make a point of finding good stuff when I go on holiday. Nothing in Italy, France or the UK can beat it for flavour and innovation. The menus change frequently with seasonal flavours. My rose and raspberry ice-cream with green tea was amazing, and my husband preferred the strawberry, honey, balsamic vinegar and pepper.

This place have some of the strangest flavors you can imagine but surprisingly, they all taste pretty good!! What is not usually mentioned in their reviews is the excellent customer service. Each customer treated with kindness and a smile, with a great attitude. You don't feel rush and can sample as many flavors as you want. All their waffle cones are hand made on site and their scoops are very generous. There are many good ice cream parlors in Portland but this place stands out amongst them. Expect a line on most days unless you go before lunch hours. Definitely a must place to visit when in Portland, Oregon.

We had heard about this place since we came to Portland over a month ago, and finally had time to try it. I never thought that such different flavors could make ice cream better! The fresh strawberry with balsamic and black pepper was just phenominal! The balsamic and black pepper made the strawberry that much more intense, and you never knew that was in it. You have to try this when you come here. Service was fantastic. It's worth waiting in the long line to finally get to the best ice cream ever!
