A German-inspired outdoor beer garden right above two floors of thumping dance floors.

On top of a 19th-century townhouse sits this German-inspired beer garden. You’ll have to journey through two floors of crowds and thumping music to get there, but it’s worth the fresh air and steins.

What a hidden gem! I chose this place for myself and 3 coworkers. It was a stones throw from our hotel "the redbury". After ready the reviews on yelp, do I have to try the hangover burger. Everything that we ordered was absolutely fantastic. You will not be disappointed in the truffle fries or the hangover burger. If you can enjoy the rooftop dining. You truly get to soak in New York City.

Burger was pretty good, nice atmosphere and service - aircon was welcome in mid July. Worth noting that the roof terrace was only for 21 and over if youre travelling with kids.

This was a perfect venue to meet with friends and family. It was energetic yet the noise level was reasonable. The drinks and food were exceptional and the bartenders/servers could not have been more accommodating.

We flew in late for our trip to NYC, made reservations here (which we probably didn't need, but were being safe). Had a upstairs/outside section that we did not see, but was closing at 10 on Thursday night. We had a few beers and waitress, maybe bartender, made a requested French 75 that was perfect. Wife ate the tavern burger with truffle fries, both were great!! I had the cheesesteak with salad and also as great! Would return if we needed a place for food and drinks. My only problem was sitting in the booth I closed UNDER the expected, heard everyone going up and down the stairs. Service was great!!

It's a beautiful pub, located near our hotel, the redbury hotel! The thing I'm sorry about is not finishing my California Sandwith. Next time I hope to enjoy it better.

Found this place by chance. Very efficient and friendly service with advice on selection of craft beers. Lovely atmosphere. Nice booths for a quiet drink. Pleased we only ordered the "small" plate cheese and meat. It was huge! Give this venue a try nice inside.

Really enjoyed visiting this Tavern. Mixed clientelle and nice staff. Good choice of wine and beer with comfortable seating. Quite small but adds to the atmosphere. Check out the outside space upstairs!

We came here for my birthday off of a recommendation. We reserved a table for 8 people at 7:00 PM. We were stuck in major traffic, and when we called to tell them we were going to be late, they said it was not a problem. It was not crowded at all, but we liked that it wasn't. We got a table on the second floor. A couple of my friends ordered a Hefeweizen from the first floor bar. I wanted one as well, and the waiter told us they have different taps upstairs and downstairs. However, our waiter was so accommodating. He kept going downstairs to get it for us, and half the group was drinking the Hefeweizen. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share at the table, and mostly everything was surprisingly delicious! The mac 'n' cheese with pulled pork was yummy, the buffalo dip was tasty, and the sliders were awesome! We weren't impressed with the flatbread pizza, and the truffle fries weren't anything special, but we still finished everything. There was a dj playing music all night. We like music that is fun to dance to but not electronic/techno dance music. We really loved the music the dj played all night! Just fun and laid back. We definitely want to come back again and check out the rooftop when the weather gets nicer.

We revisited Tavern 29 while staying at a nearby hotel (the Redbury) Years ago I had an unforgettable salad here: baby kale, beets and avocado. That one was gone but other delicious salad options have emerged. Chose fried buffalo chicken wing salad with gorgonzola and loved that too. The burgers and parmesan fries are excellent as well but the salads are standouts. Hope they keep the chef - or the techniques! The place itself is charming. We sat in one of two cozy alcoves off the entrance way that were lined by red banquettes and had two small tables in each. There was a tin roof (or something resembling one) and a lot of dark wood around a classic old bar. Love this place.

We had a group of four who enjoyed watching the 2017 Super Bowl in this great local bar. Food was good as was the selection of beverages. Friendly service from Allie was outstanding. Worked out perfectly for us as did the Super Bowl for fans of the NE Patriots. Cheers!

We had just got married the day we visited Tavern 29 and we're really hungry as we were also due to fly home that night. We were not disappointed, it was yummy. The sweet potato fries...... delicious!! We had them with a steak sandwich which was also scrumptious! Staff are really friendly and we're congratulating us on our marriage. We sat in a lovely little booth and it felt really intimate. This is one place you must visit for food!

Called in here for drinks on two separate occasions during our stay (we were staying at the hotel next door) and the girl behind the bar remembered us the 2nd time, which I thought was a great touch. The bar is great to call in just for a couple of drinks, they have a great selection of beers and cocktails, though had to ask for the wine list. We didn't have food in there but saw some coming out of the kitchen and it did look good. Would definitely go back here next time! :)

We visited mid-afternoon and later the same evening but during a quiet day in the run up to New Year. Nice size bar, intimate but comfortable. Decent selection of beers and standard pub grub. Friendly staff

My husband and I enjoyed dinner here during our Christmas trip. Staff were great........attentive and helpful. The food was plentiful and very tasty, try the fries or sweet potato we have eaten in a long time. Good drinks menu too.

We were looking for a place to pop into on the way back to our hotel and stopped in here. The night we were there, the host went out of his way to find us a spot, as the restaurant was hosting many Christmas parties. The decor was cool, laid back and the locals were friendly. The food (truffle fries and chicken quesadilla) were very good.

With the seemingly endless options to choose from when we first arrived in NY, my girlfriend and I were looking for a nice bar to have a drink and get some food. This was good bar food. We had the buffalo chicken dip, truffle fries, and mac and cheese. It won't disappoint if you have limited and want to stay close to the area where you're staying.

This fun little pub was down the street from my hotel and I needed a classic "bar food" lunch and their menu offered it up. The turkey club sandwich($15) was fantastic and would typically have been two or three meals on a plate but I was hungry and dominated it despite being asked if I wanted a box as I was up against the ropes in the 11th round. Kendra was great and took care of me, kept my water glass filled and a beer(Lagunitas Daytime IPA $7) in front of me. Things seemed fairly reasonable for the city and they have a third floor roof top which I didn't check out but sounds awesome.

My wife and went to Tavern 29 last night. We ordered Farmer's Board, which is a large selection of cheeses and meat. Too much food for 2 unless it's two NFL football players. Great bar food. Ask for Ivy- a phenomenal waitress. Take whatever recommendations she makes.
