Came here to catch up w/ Yelena over dinner. I was too tired to read the menu, so I asked the waitress to recommend my entire meal for me. The Pulpo (grilled octopus w/ paprika) was excellent to start with. Get the San Sebastian cocktail to sip on.

My husband chose this tapas bar to bring our out-of-town guests (based on the good reviews), and we were not disappointed! I can't handle highly spiced foods, while my husband hates "boring/bland" food, yet we both absolutely loved everything we ordered (which, according to our server, was just about everything on their menu). The chef(s) knew how to make each ingredient shine without the "crutch" of just loading things up with chilies. We enjoyed everything, but we ordered "seconds" of our favorites: - the eggplant in honey with pine nuts - the sardines with radishes, herbs, bread, and butter - the manchego cheese with almonds in oil (on bread) You might think the prices on the high side (but still worth it for the quality ingredients), but when you realize that the prices include the gratuity (it's a "no tipping" restaurant), then the meal is a great deal, indeed. We will absolutely be back!

I brought a group of 12 people to celebrate my 50th birthday. The Huertas staff, particularly Rachel Jackson, could not have been nicer, more accommodating, and better prepared for creating a memorable experience. They printed a personalized Happy Birthday menu which included dishes of our choice. There was not a single thing that I would not order again. Most of our group were foodies and they raved about that small bites that kept coming. Everything was delicious. The only bummer is that we live in Miami and will not be coming back soon enough.

Tapas tapas tapas. Go here for the tapas and go here with a group. We ordered about 6-9 dishes for the 6 of us, wonderful food! Chef was excellent and knows his stuff. Happy hour is from 5-7, the red wine is flaco which is great, drink it as a house wine in Beijing and it's organic. I loved how they did away with tipping and pay their staff a real wage. You can tell they actually wanted to be working there. 5 stars!!

If you're into good food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious ciders, this is the spot for you! Beautifully prepared food and lots of fun flavors are the best ways to describe your meal. If you're a foodie, this is an NYC must!

Went to Huertas near St Mark's for the 1st time for dinner on a Friday night after I read a review on Time Out, we liked it although it was not great. It's a tapas menu (which is cool) but I felt the selection was limited compared to some other Spanish places I've been to, and most of them were not extraordinary. The Jamon tapas is basically 4 mini slices of prociutto with a couple of slices of basic bread, I have had better ones. The saffron rice with shrimp and the octopus were good. The portions are okay (tapas size). The churrios were almost burnt. The wine is quite expensive (but good). The place is nice, not too noisy, service is good. Tip is already included in the price so you just don't tip.

My best-friend and I were searhcing for a restuarant on a sunday early evening. We were looking for a place to eat around 4pm, which is a weird time because it's in between brunch and dinner. We went to 4 different places and the kitchen was closed, so there was a 1 hour wait to eat. We were both starving and thankfully stumbled into Huertas. We explained our situation and they greeted us, and suggested some tapas to eat until the kitchen opened for dinner at 5pm. We were so thankful to sit down and eat. My best-friend has some food allergies and the waitress was very kind to take notice and accommodate my friend. The ambiance was perfect! This place is great for a girls night out, family dinners and even a business dinner. What I especially liked about this place is how they take care of the workers, their 'Hospitality Included’ restaurant approach is a brilliant idea!! Please look at their website for more information. My family has worked in the hospitality business for many years, therefore I know the importance of a establishment treating their workers right. I hope other places would follow Huertas example. I am happily referring many people as possible to this fine dinning experience. I hope to return soon! ** Please try the ' Arroz' it's the best!**

Okay, so first off... octopus is having a moment on the food scene. But, the octopus here is exceptional! One of my favorites here in the city. Don't turn your nose down at hot dogs or canned mussels! They were amazing! Highly recommend. And that comes from a hot dog lover and a reluctant canned fish consumer. Very welcoming and lovely staff. So happy to have stumbled upon this place. Will definitely be back for more than happy hour. But it was a wonderful way to start...

FANTASTIC experience, The food was great and the drinks even better. They make the world's best Gin & Tonic. You also need to try their homemade vermouth.

This was our second visit to Huerta. We really loved it the first time. This time the mushroom dish and the shishito pepper dishes were too salty and too oily. None of the dishes were memorable. The service was ok, but the staff was not friendly or gracious. They were just doing their job. We were very disappointed. We will not return.

Fantastic food in a no nonsense setting. Go for the tasting menu and talk it through with the great staff. The place also specializes in interesting drinks and makes its own infused tonics for gin drinks. I could not say enough about the food. Best to go with a few folks and share everything. Best tapas I've ever had.

Nice spot for drinks and small plates. Recommend the spicy chicken croquettes, the shishito peppers, grilled octopus, anchovie-wrapped olive, and the Iberico jamon. Wine choices are challenging -- probably best to choose a tempranillo. Nice ambiance and attentive service.

A lovely air conditioned bar/restaurant on a sticky NY summer night. One of the growing number of 'no tipping" restaurants the prices were really reasonable. The tapas menu is not big but each dish we tried was delicious. The owner was on the floor and offered personal service. The front bar was full of partying groups but the back is reserved for couples wanting a quieter evening. They have some canned dishes imported from Spain which are really worth a try. Get wine recommendations from the staff. Octopus - charred and on a bed of soft potato - a real winner. Worth a trip to this jumping part of town

This is a great spot for drinks. Lots of Spanish wines, but they also have a very nice selection of sidra (cider) from everywhere - Vermont to the Basque region. Highly recommend with some pinxtos. Great service by knowledgeable bartenders.

I rarely review restaurants but this is worth my time. Been a few times to Huertas already and keep getting amazed by the type and quality of the dishes I'm having. I've done the Nuestros Manos (tasting menu, only 45usd on Sundays and Mondays!!) every single time and most of the dishes have not been repeated. Super creative and extremely tasty every single time. There are a few musts, like the Rotos with chorizo, or the Basque Dog .. but I haven't had anything there that I did not like. Extremely charming staff (Chloe, Rachel..) and both Jonah (cook/co-owner) and Nate (co-owner..) are extremely approachable and down to Earth. The ambiance is lovely, enough space not to feel crammed like in most NYC restaurants yet still somehow feels intimate. My only wish, is to see the restaurant packed every time I go there because they truly deserve it. Well done!

My niece and nephew always find great not-in-midtown places. Some are too hip to be comfortable. Huertas is not one. Comfortable seating...space between tables and a manageable noise level on a weeknight. The menu is almost exclusively small bites and shared plates. The food is very good but be careful. The bill can mount quickly. This is a no tipping restaurant and that information is clearly presented on their website, their menu and the check. This is a good place to go especially if you are in the neighborhood.

DON'T be put off by the immediate neighbourhood - think edgy rather than run-down. Although on a busy road, opposite a rather unpreposessing triumvirate of Subway, McD's and Dunkin Donuts, this place is a gem. We recommend you do as we did and take the 'nuestro mannos' option where the kitchen select a range of dishes for you to share. We ate a selection of pintxos including a toast with goats cheese and honey. Potato 'spaghetti' with an egg sauce, fantastically fresh hake, such a delicate flavour. On the drinks side, they blend their own tonic, etc. Not the cheapest place we've eaten but tips are included, so in line with other places. Amazing place, can't recommend highly enough .

This is one of the great finds in New York City. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The decor is casual and relaxed. The food is spectacular. Where else can you have a tasting menu for $65 including tip ($45 on Sunday and Monday). The tasting menu includes dishes not on the menu, which are innovative and delicious. Oh yes, and Basque cuisine is the new in thing amonst foodies. So do not ruin this restaurant by making it an in place where normal folks have to call one month in advance to get a reservation.

I continue to dine with my grown sons based on their "foodie" expertise. The establishment was for a special occasion and I could not be more impressed. Four of us shared a number of dishes ranging from the Pulpo (octopus), Salachicha (Chorizo sausage) Tortilla (potato/onion omelette) along with a meat/cheese platter. Simply delicious.

Pinxtos/ tapas from northern Spain, very authentic, including wine/ beverages, great service, and welcome in East Village. Inexpensive. Terrific bar, and brunch. Food is dynamite.
