Chef Michael Anthony’s daily-changing menu evolves with the seasons and what’s fresh at the Union Square greenmarket, where he sources ingredients. Dinner in Gramercy Tavern’s main dining room is a splurge with tasting menus at $120, but you can eat many of the same dishes for lunch at a cost of only $58 for five courses.

Like a solid marriage rather than a heady love affair, it has stood the test of time, righting itself when it starts to go wrong, knowing that what’s at stake are a great many warm memories, some yet to be made.

Wine director Juliette Pope maintains and augments what has long been one of New York’s best lists. You want sparkling wine, but not at Champagne prices? How about the excellent Crémant de Jura from Montbourgeau for $50?

I believe this is one of the few NYC restaurants where gratuities is included in the total bill, save me from the unease and embarrassment of the tip thing. Good ambience, good service, good food, reasonably priced by NYC standard. Be prepared to wait as they do not take reservation, but do try your luck at the bar where the same full menu is served when the dining hall is full. I do hope they would cut down the size of the appetiser (at least the one that I had) so to leave room for dessert (which I did not have unfortunately).

As a visitor, it may make you nervous to recommend a place that you enjoyed the first time, esp when it's to celebrate a special time. Polite accommodating staff and delicious fare in a fresh and inviting atmosphere add up to high end casual dining at its best. Unavoidable.

We visited our daughter who now lives and practice in NJ. She and her husband was impressed with their dining experience at Gramercy Tavern during their last visit that she treated us to an early dinner after the Lion King show. We were seated around 6:15p and at that time there were only 3 other occupied tables in the formal dining area. Yet the waiter seemed aloof and probably forgot us as he was just walking around for 12-15 minutes that we had to wave him back to get our order. All four of us elected the Dinner Tasting Menu at $179.00 per person. The service there on was excellent. Two other waiters served us with new silverware each time a course is served. Being a tasting menu, understandably the portion was small, but didn't expect it to be too small. Food presentation was great but nothing memorable taste wise. We all agreed that even at $100 per, it wasn't worth it. Obviously, we won't be back.

The service was good, the food excellent and the wine list full of great choices. The Gramercy Tavern is renowned for its "farm to table" menu and it's obvious why from the first taste of the watermelon gazpacho to the succulent sea bass or tilapia on to the home made ice cream. The menu changes depending on what's fresh from Union Square Greenmarket down the street or their other fresh sources so count on unique choices. The summertime vegetable garnishes were full of color and flavor. Reputation confirmed!! A last minute online booking led us to a table for 2 in the the more formal dinning room vs the more casual Tavern side but everything is open, bright and relaxed in a charming, historic way. Good recommendations from the sommelier on wine parings from the extensive wine list and attentive wait staff took care to manage deliveries at the right pace for a relaxed meal. My first visit, but definitely not my last! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience. As a side note, the historic neighborhood is great for a bit of sightseeing and walking off that wonderful meal A few photos attached. See their website for food pics!

When i'm in NYC I always look for a top notch starred restaurant for lunch. I had great meals at Bouley and Del Posto and thought I'll go this time with Gramercy Tavern which I didn't visit almost 10 years. I went with the $89 lunch deal. The food is good, very well executed with great service. But, when i'm paying for a lunch deal above $ 110 with a glass of wine, I wait to be wowed and that's not the place when compared to Bouley if you will.

We had lunch on the Tavern side, not on the restaurant side. The menu was inspired and inviting, the pace pleasant, the service delightful. We will go back.

Our party of two enjoyed the Chef’s lunch tasting menu. Every single item was delicate, delicious, beautifully plated and well balanced. Our table was near the back end of the restaurant, with the chairs positioned such that both diners could enjoy the view of the entire restaurant. Prices (including alcohol) include gratuity, which is convenient, and overall, the cost of the lunch menu was quite reasonable for a one star Michelin establishment. Although we had the non-vegetarian option, it was possible to swap out an item from the vegetable tasting menu, and we really appreciated this flexibility. The only small negative was the pacing which we found to be a little on the rapid side, but this was easily addressed with a request to slow down our lunch experience. Altogether a highly enjoyable experience worthy of a repetition.

We had an sublime food experience here. Made reservation for 2 pm and had the tasting experience which was done superbly plus I added the wine paring which was a real treat and artfully paired with my vegetarian tasting. It took about 1.5 hours and was a highlight of our anniversary visit to NYC. I would request seating in the actual tavern area next time as it has a little more ambiance!

This was our second time to Gramercy Tavern in the last few years. This is one of the finest restaurants that we have ever been to. The service was excellent and the food is second to none. This place is not cheap, but I guarantee you will remember the meal.

Food, atmosphere was very good, they don't take reservations but we arrived a little after 6 and only had about a half hour wait. The Fluke Tartare was excellent. No tipping as it is included in the price of dinner, drinks, etc.

Excellent from start to finish - we arrived early and enjoyed the bar area for a few minutes which is decorated wonderfully. We were seated in the main dining area where we had the 3 course menu and everything was spectacular. The tomato salad and shrimp first course were magnificent, the pork and swordfish second course above and beyond, then the dessert is another level. I had the chocolate which I will say is the best dessert I have ever eaten anywhere. My wife had the milk and cookies which were excellent as well. Top notch place deserving of top ratings!

We were a lively party of 8 that visited the dining room section of this restaurant, over the Labour Day weekend. I had to be that annoying person that needed to change the reservation twice, but they were kind enough to accommodate us, without a problem! In addition, my request for a round table was noted and met, which as a party of 8 people, we were grateful for. The waiters were extremely attentive, charming and friendly. They took the time to explain the menu, the wine and the cheese selection. One of our party required a gluten free meal, which was adhered to, even though we were all eating off the $129pp set menu. The waiters were also kind (and friendly!) enough to recommend a few bars, after dinner, which we visited and enjoyed! Our only gripe was that the food was very good, but not excellent. We all found our 8 different starters, over seasoned and then our 8 different mains, under seasoned. However, the service, ambience, atmosphere and EVERYTHING else made up for it. We had such an excellent evening, which Gramercy contributed to and we will definitely be returning!

We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We got lucky on booking a great time on a Friday - its not easy to get a good slot as this is a very popular restaurant. I can see why. The food was excellent, nicely paced and presented. Wine choice was on the expensive side but there was just enough choice to not have to go bankrupt. They even allowed me to change tables - a fairly painless courtesy that other restaurants could learn a great deal from - it really changes the overall experience when the staff are helpful. Only thing they got wrong was the spelling of my wife's name on the cake but to be fair I'm putting that down to my British accent fooling them....Highly recommended restaurant.

My Husband and I came for a meal here for my birthday and from start to finish we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The waiter was absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable. There were not any vegetarian options on the menu that particular night but they were very accommodating, the food was delicious with first class ingredients. We were also given focaccia bread and chocolates as extra. We finished the meal with a French press coffee which I would also highly recommend.

This place is just delicious. When we arrived we mistakenly ended up in the dining room. We decided we wanted to be in the Tavern instead and they were very accommodating. We ended up with a great corner table and a great waitress. Her name was Caroline. We had fluke carpaccio and tomato salad to begin. Both of these dishes were absolutely delicious. Next we had burgers and pork fried rice. I know that it is hard to imagine that a burger could so far out surpass others but this one did. The meat was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The bun was also delicious. Finally the pork fried rice was very good but not as good as the burger. I would be happy eating at this place a few times a week.

My husband and I went to the Gramercy Tavern for our 25th wedding anniversary last week. We decided to go to the Tavern instead of the Dining Room. My husband got there first, put our name in for a table and mentioned that it was our anniversary. It was an hour wait so he went to the bar. The bartender asked him if he would like to sit at the bar and quickly got him two spots. The hostess then came over to kindly ask if we still wanted a table. We told he we were happy at the bar. Our bartender, Victoria was awesome. She gave us spot on recommendations. My husband ordered a glass of rose and after telling Victoria what kind of beer I liked she recommended a delicious pale ale. Shortly there after one of the hosts came over and gave us with a zucchini flatbread bc they had an extra in the kitchen. Needless to say we appreciated it. We then ordered the seafood tower which Victoria recommended a muscadet pairing - perfect. For entrees ordered the swordfish and cavatelli for entrees. Victoria recommended chenin blanc. It was divine. The food was delicious. At the end of the meal they surprised us with a heavenly coconut merengue cake with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. It was exceptional. We loved the atmosphere. It was lively but you could hear each other. The action at the bar was fun to watch. Old fashions are very popular. The staff was friendly (but not overly), very knowledgable and thoughtful. We had a the absolute best time and look forward to returning!

Gramercy Tavern continues to be one of New York City most satisfying and exciting restaurants. First, the rooms are always filled with stunning flower arrangements and you feel that you are in a cozy oasis away from the hustle of NYC. The kitchen is turning out very creative and delicious food. Each bite of the dish coveys to you that the ingredients are fresh from the market and are prepared by highly skilled chefs. My beautifully prepared flounder dish included fresh corn kernels that were breathtakingly beautiful. Service is superb and gracious. Gramercy Tavern has a beautiful wine and drink list that will satisfy all budgets. Finally, the pastry chef is creating sublime dishes, like raspberries, goat cheesecake, honey and wild rose. It was so very good. Come alone or in group and you will have a great time. Reservations for the Dining Room are essential. I love Gramercy Tavern and I think you will too!
