Sometimes I dream of the rich escarole soup with its fierce little meatballs, and I wake up thinking about the fried parmesan fritters.

Attractive restaurant with Good Location, food and service quite good. Very noisy bar area. Dining area a bit quieter. Large menu, good selection of Italian and continental dishes. Two shared the 1/ 2 duck. Good size drinks.

It's not easy to serve a table of ten people, but the wait staff did an admirable job. The table was set into an alcove with inadequate ventilation for a hot summer evening. They tried their best to increase the flow of cold air from the one air vent, but it never got quite comfortable for some of us. The food, however, was really good. We all shared starters of yummy fried parmigiana balls and one diner had a plate of blue point oysters before we all had our appetizers. Most people ordered salads of varying kinds but I had the special soup: a cold purée of beets and apples. Delicious and refreshing. Everyone enjoyed their entrées, pastas, scallops, roast chicken, etc. Three of us had excellent roast duck, such generous and meaty portions that two of us brought home leftovers. Too full for dessert.

Great service and great food!!! Went here for dinner on my birthday and couldn't rave more.. the octopus was so tender and mouthwatering I can't wait to go back for more. The main entree was incredible! Homemade spinach ravioli in a butter sage sauce and I dug into it so fast that I didn't get a pic...:). Thank you Cesca, We'll be back!!

We arrived late after the movies. We were seated in the bar in a booth- very cozy. Nice service even though we arrived when everyone there must have been tired. Delicious food.

I payed a visit with some friends and a very rude bartender named Lazarus wouldn't give us the time of day. I asked for a menu and 5 minutes later we received one. When I told him we where ready to order he pasted us by and from afar,at the complete opposite side of the bar he yelled out ...I can hear you what would you like.I'm sorry but for 35 dollars a plate you should be more attentive! I will not be returning not only because of the bartender but the food was not worth it!

Read reviews in Zagat, since was not familiar with restaurants on the upper west side near the Beacon Theater. This is a lovely decorated restaurant , it reminded me of an old hotel lobby, but in a good way. Our waiter was very friendly and the service was prompt. I enjoyed our dinners.. 1/2 duck and fish. We shared an apple dessert. Leisurely and enjoyable meal

Check in process went well. Dining staff were polite. The starters were very good particularly the fritters. The atmosphere was nice and a perfect fit for the upper west side. A definite place to revisit on a date or business lunch or dinner.

cesca is the kind of restaurant that everyone should have in their neighborhoods. we have visited many times, and the simple, high-quality ingredients and wonderful preparations have been impeccable almost 100% of the time. (the roasted duck, when it's on the menu, is skip-able.) the warmly-lit room is lovely and low-key, and we have always received wonderful service. not only is cesca a great neighborhood spot, i imagine it to be a nice respite for visitors to the city who would like a break from the tourist bus route.

From the reservation, to the warm greeting, to the superb food, wine, and service, our group of seven had a wonderful evening that exceeded all expectations. Cesca is a gem. Our thanks to Monica (the manager), and Paul and the other wait staff who could not have been more attentive. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal including the terrific Ravioli Di Funghi, Pollo, Caccuico, and Tagliatelle Verdi All Ragu, among other dishes. We look forward to our next visit.

Excellent. Loved the bolognese. Great bartenders. Was there on a Wednesday which is lasagna night and tried some of the man's sitting next to me (who got the last one). I can see why they run out!

Where should I begin? This was the worst experience at an NYC Italian restaurant that I've had. The service was horrible, and the food was the same. Our waitress was so inattentive, she didn't bother to bring bread until we had asked 3 times. When the entree later arrived, the broccoli rabe was cold, and the ragu was less than mediocre. In fact, the best item on the table ended up being the bread basket for which the wait was entirely too long. Lastly, despite the Upper West Side location, this restaurant's decor is more reflective of a downscale national chain.

This West side gem is another one of those smaller fine restaurants in Manhattan. I had great dinner on Tuesday night with no reservations. The service is prompt and efficient without being hovering. The food is nicely prepared and presented. I had a seafood pasta dish with a salad, all was excellent. The crusty bread with flavored olive oil was a wonderful starter. The food prices were very reasonable. My only complaint was the high alcohol prices and very limited choices for wine by the glass. This is one of those places where "front loading " would be recommended ( having a drink before you go ). Overall a good experience, I'll go back. Recommended.

It's rare to find a really good Italian restaurant outside Italy. This one however really doesn't disappoint. It may by wholly authentic Italian, but the American touch somehow adds to the experience. The short ribs I had were terrific. An very good list of specials too. In a week of eating out in New York, this was by far the best meal I ate. I'll certainly go again next time I'm in the city. It also comfortable and agreeable to sit in with friendly, helpful service.

Great space and consistent solid food with a strong wine list. Good place for groups as its pretty large and open by NYC standards. Ate there last Saturday with my family. I had the NY Strip, which was perfectly cooked and very good. I sampled the other dishes (Spinach Ravioli and Striped Bass), which were similarly good. Ordered a side of Potatoes, which were very bland. We always order the Parmesan Fritters when we are here and you should too! Service was inconsistent (which has always been a problem at Cesca) - server was very nice and helpful but disappeared for a long time and did not check up on us (we did need a few things).

I went to 'Cesca to celebrate a birthday, and I wanted a sort of romantic place. 'Cesca filled the bill: we were seated in a corner in banquettes, and there was a small candle on our table. 'Cesca is decorated in a very 1940's style. Bread came with flavored olive oil. We could share our first course of ravioli with ricotta and spinach. My mojito was not sweet enough, and I sent it back, not with our waiter, and he was gracious enough to take care of it for me. My partner had the tuna and I had beef as our mains; both were very tasty. Nice Brussels sprouts as well. Portions are a good size. We shared our dessert, which also was separated for us, since he likes ice cream and I like cake. The only downside was that 'Cesca is dark, and the dim lighting makes it hard to read the menu and the bill. (Could be my old eyes, but I don't think that is the only reason...)

Enjoyable dining experience, yet unremarkable food. The octopus salad was very good, but the duck was just ok. The fried cauliflower was heavier than it should have been. The scallops were quite good as were the desserts. Nice room and decent service. Hard to get our server to smile though.

We were happy to get a table for the four of us on a cold Thursday night, despite the nearly full house and our lack of reservation. The hostess and the wait staff are super-efficient and very attentive. Although all our entrees were delicious, the mushroom ravioli and duck were particularly outstanding. My husband and I appreciate that Cesca's wine list offers a number of mezzo - a little over a half bottle, which we find the perfect amount to share.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner with friends at Cesca and recommend it enthusiastically. Seating is thoughtfully arranged. Waitstaff and sommelier very helpful and provided excellent advice. Food was scrumptious and thoughtfully presented. An excellent experience.
