Came here on a warm October night to enjoy the Suarez Family Brewery tap takeover. Got tables outside and had a great time. You can bring food from outside (Blue Collar is a solid, cheap option for burgers)

Melissa says: when I do make my way to Billy-burg (Williamsburg), I go to Spuyten Duyvil for fancy beer.

A beacon for craft beer fans for its wide-ranging supply, with a special focus on limited-run and hard-to-find brews, Spuyten Duyvil also has great wines and cheese plates, and an idyllic back yard, complete with shade and twinkling lights. It’s a favorite among locals and rarely empty.

Spuyten is featuring beers that have a woody influence, wood-aged and deep flavored, stop by for a taste in this Williamsburg hotspot.

We actually were sent here while we were waiting for a table and the next-door St. Anselm restaurant. Great selection of beers, though I had a nice glass of red wine. Bartenders were very attentive. Looks like that had a great selection of different charcuterie plates, along with the deli slicers right there in front of you to make them fresh upon order. We didn't partake but only because we were going to have a big dinner next door. Very cool spot, though, and worth a stop on its own one of these days.

If you like beer, this is the place for you! The choice is immense, with beers from different countries and continents. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and prices are reasonable.

This bar doesn't look like much. But looks can as we know be deceiving. In fact you would wonder given the size of New York and the multiplicity of bars, clubs, restaurants why this bar would feature so highly. I just loved it. Rotating craft beers with meats and cheeses. What else do you need? You could be anywhere in the world and yet you couldn't. A taste of Brooklyn.

Came to NY for a beautiful winter day to go biking on the Hudson. Headed over to Williamsburg for a beer. Ended up here. Nice bartenders. Good music. Comfortable and good beer.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after gorging ourselves across the street at Fette Sau. We actually walked right past it on our way to Fette Sau and wouldn’t have recognized the entrance if I hadn’t looked it up in advance of coming. The bar itself has a vaguely European cafe feel to it, long skinny bar area, it is the kind of place that has a bicycle hanging from the wall and custom wood tap handles. It’s apparently also the type of place that kind of smirks when you ask if they have coffee or caffeinated beverages. The tap list was decent with a couple of solid choices and a decent range of styles. Bottle list had more rarities but most seemed less appealing when I discovered that they were not in fact 750ml bottles as I had assumed from the prices, but were in fact 375! Still, some definitely worth a splurge depending what you were into. The best feature of the place in my opinion was the large sunny back patio. It was the perfect day for it for us, with plenty of sun but not too hot. It was a great spot to relax and hang out with friends. It’s a nice bar, and the sort of sleepy afternoon feel was nice compared to busier spots we went to on this trip but as others have noted the prices can be steep even for NYC. All that said, I had a great time and I would come back and it’s well worth a visit, but I suspect that its status as one of the best NYC beer places is partly based on historical reputation.

Reminds me very much of the 'old' style bars back in the UK. Massive selection of beers available from all over the world with knowledgeable staff and a friendly atmosphere. Clientele are very much the 'arty' people of Brooklyn, which makes for an interesting evening. We were there with a large family and friends group, of all ages, and all felt comfortable, which is hard to pull off in many other bars.

Un lugar casi bohemio, conun variedad interminalble de excelentes vinos y cervezas en una planta baja baja tiípica de este barrio, de muros cubiertos de madera y ladrillo aparente, super para relajarse y seguir la fiesta o terminar el dia!

Spuyten Duyvil is a small bar in Williamsburg. The interior is warm and nicely decorated. There is a long bar and a few wood tables to sit at, and a nice patio in the back during the warmer months. The point of a trip there is for the beer. There's a changing selection of beers on both tap and cask - always a really interesting variety of stuff you don't really see elsewhere, seasonal, and anything from bocks to ales. The massive menu of bottled beers is expansive and international. They also have wine and cheese plates, although I haven't tried those. The bartenders are knowledgeable beer nerds who will always recommend a beer to overwhelmed drinkers. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious - it's not unusual to see someone reading a book in the corner, and the customers are generally there to hang out with friends and chat and sample the beer. The owners of Spuyten Duyvil also operate Fette Sau, a barbecue place across the street that specializes in bourbons and whiskey, and a specialty beer store in a mini-mall on Bedford Avenue. These people know their alcohol!
