NYC's most famous steakhouse. If you go, get the porterhouse for two medium rare with german potatoes and creamed spinach. Start with a slice of bacon!

This Brooklyn steakhouse isn't just known for its old age. It's a vital part of the New York City restaurant scene (as evidenced by its place on the Eater NY 38), and its dry-aged porterhouse is the stuff of legend. Opened: 1887. [Photo]

Who would have thought that this classic steakhouse would have originally opened as a billiards and bowling alley with a café? Not us. That’s exactly what Peter Luger created in 1887.

Served only at lunch, the hamburger is made with spectacular meat and very little else. Don’t forget the french fries.

Today, only one restaurant in the world offers steaks whose deep mineral aroma, sharp tang, and robust beefiness remind me of my dad. . . Steak is the only reason to go to Peter Luger (the hamburgers are good, too). . .

Peter Luger [the lauded steak house in Williamsburg]? Let me make this clear: "old" does not necessarily mean "good".

A favorite of the mini-mogul set, Peter Luger Steak House has been serving the finest USDA Prime steaks since 1887. But you need not be a mogul to eat here; one of the biggest surprises is the chopped steak (a/k/a hamburger).

Famous steakhouse. try to visit at lunch time around two pm. Line is not too long at that time. (In my case, I took a sip of beer and waited for sth like twenty min and that's all) Some suggest trying the burger but come on, if you have only one chance at Peter Luger during your trip, just order the steak. It's simply heavenly.

High quality meat, we were served T-bone. It's expensive but it's worth the money. Also, the staff was very friendly. Make a reservation before you go. They don't accept credit cards.

First restaurant we tried in NYC. Booked this restaurant one month ago, and couldn't get a table after 17h. The reservation service isn't so nice though. They didn't accept booking unless we have a valid US number. Also they don't accept international credit card. Probably i'm accustomed to the French Michelin Restaurant Service, here in the US, everything is not as fancy as in France, service wise. Anyway, all said, the steak was really nice, we did enjoy it. Every meat lover should come trying the prime steak.

Before I get attacked about not giving this establishment a perfect review from "Luger-addicts", hear me out. First off, bc it's a super popular place, reservation need to be made way in advance - that's my first con. I've been and frequented other steak houses, Palm, Del Frisco's, Capital Grille, Keens, Delmonico's, Bobby Van's, Harry's...the list goes on and on. I think the main draw is the mystique that follows this place which is their name. They're all expensive (steak houses) but the one pro at Luger's is the staff. I've heard stories about certain waiters there that will tell YOU how you should order your steak...like its only done one way and one way only. Our waiter was very accommodating and actually brought my wife's steak back to cook a little more than the red, raw, insides she got. This waiter couldn't do enough to please our crowd. Sorry, but by cons outweighed the pros.

As always the best steak in Brooklyn and NYC by my opinion. I have been coming here for over 19 years and will continue to patronize this fine dining institution.

I was taken to Peter Lugers as my friends said " best steak in New York " Service quick and casual , friendly. Shared a steak between two of us Cooked as ordered , medium rare , erring on the rare side German fried potatoes ,too greasy One of our party is vegetarian, she had a green salad , Shared cheesecake for pudding between three of us, I would bet it was not cooked on the premises, brought in from elsewhere, ok only To be fair the steak was good , not great The hype is more than it deserves

If your looking for the "atmosphere" of an old men's club while eating a steak dinner this is the spot. If your looking to pay for your expensive meal in cash and flaunt that you carry that kind of money on you congrats you've found the spot. Personally the food quality and the ambiance is not my personal favorite experience. There are plenty of other steak houses with-in the city limits that offer better fare and a more accommodating nature.

No frills. Nothing fancy. Just incredibly prepared steak with great sides. No wonder these guys have a queue. Well worth it. My mum was visiting from South Africa, which by the way has some of best the best steak in the world. These guys lived up to the hype. The waiter treated us well. Man I can't wait to go back... PS - this rates very highly in my opinion... up there with other great steakhouses...go if you get a chance. Well worth the trip from CT for me... besides you can walk it off over the Brooklyn Bridge😋

We order steak for four, some thick bacon, fries and salad. The steak was really good, bacon was amazing and the signature sauce is delicious. Nonetheless, fries were lacking, and salad was a joke - 14 bucks for a sliced tomato and onion is insulting. The food is good, the place is comfy. Overall great experience. However, there's nothing to brag about. I wont say I wont recommend this place, but it isn't a game changer. In my opinion, is a little overpriced for what it has to offer.

When we come to New York we always visit Peter Lugers. It's my husbands favorite. Enjoyed our traditional dinner of tomato and onion salad with our porterhouse, potatoes, spinach and of course the pecan pie with the whipped cream. Always stuffed when I leave but happy!

What can I say about this wonderful restaurant! Everything was delicious! We were celebrating my birthday and the only reservation available was at 5:45 P.M.. The bar area was packed as well as the restaurant. We had to wait about 25 minutes for our table. Our waiter was very efficient and brought us the delicious rolls and took our drink order. We ordered the steak for three, tomatoes and onion salad and creamed spinach. Our drinks had enough kick in them! Our steak was cooked to perfection so tender and did not need any steak sauce. The tomatoe and onion salad was tasty with their famous sauce. My companions loved the creamed spinach. In fact one was ordered to go. Dessert was the hot fudge sundae which we all shared-it was fantastic. There is a reason why this restaurant is so famous. I would recommend eating here. Cannot wait to return!

Peter Luger lives up to its iconic reputation. The steak is simply divine, the best I've ever had. Loved the creamed spinach and apple streudel as well. It was a bit of a wait for a table, but it's well worth it. Service was good but not exceptional. If you love steak, you have to try this place at least once.

I don't like complaining but ... We waited and waited, and waited. And we had a reservation. The waiting area was packed . Finally we got a table for the both of us. It was a teeny tiny table in a corner. Honestly, I felt like they didn't want us there. We ordered our food. The waiter was not helpful or friendly. We got our food quickly. Steak was good but considering the price I felt it's overrated . The experience wasn't amazing at all. I was there years ago but it's changed and not for the better. Very disappointing..

We were lucky to get early dinner reservations one week before our visit. We took the subway and walk 5 minutes to the restaurant. We weren't sure how to dress, but it was a really hot day and the restaurant didn't seem to mind that we wearing shorts. It's a no brainer to order the porterhouse and the thick bacon strips. We chose the porterhouse for 2 since we are not big meat eaters and also ordered german potatoes and creamed spinach. You do get a large basket of rolls with your meal. Overall, it was enough food for our family of four and the food was good. The service is very precise and professional. Our service Jose was playful with the kids and gave a breadstick with all the meat temperature indicators/stamps/picks to our younger son after noticing he wanted to keep the one we had for our steak. Overall, the meal was good value and enjoyable. Lastly, remember to book in advance and bring cash.
