Come afternoon, the fare is predominantly Portuguese: think big bowls of red snapper stew, broiled catfish and barbecue pork chops. It's nobody's health food --- especially when the kitchen gets salt-happy --- but it's anybody's hearty value.

Came here for breakfast Monday. It was a nice morning, so we sat outside amongst the grapes. It wasn't very busy at 10 am, but it was a work day. Service was very good. The food was terrific. They make their own corned beef hash and it was very good. The cream of wheat was awesome. You won't be disappointed.

This is a fun, friendly, and very popular brunch spot in Somerville. Unless you come first thing in the morning, you should be prepared to wait on the weekend. But, the restaurant does its best to keep you happy on line with free coffee, water, and snacks while you wait. The service is attentive and warm. The food was delicious, with a full range of breakfast options. The brunch specials are massive--mine came with a waffle, fruit, ham, eggs, potatoes, toast, coffee, and orange juice. The prices are very reasonable for a quantity like that. This restaurant is strictly cash only, though an ATM is available on site.

A great local spot for brunch. We went here on Saturday morning and ate on their outdoor patio. There was a long wat but it was well worth it. Get here early. Tons of food choices on the menu and great specials. I had the Linguica omelet and it did not disappoint. My wife had crab cake eggs benedict. That was amazing. kids pancakes, eggs over easy and a Spanish omelet rounded out our meal. Fruit came with every meal unless you opted for Cream of wheat which I did. small glass of OJ was included as well. Family of five and our bill was $59. I thought that was a great value for the amount and quality of food we received.

Great breakfast/lunch place in Union Square. In the summer, enjoy dining on the patio with grapevines overhead. The quality and quantity of the food can't be beat. Breakfasts come with juice, choice of fruit or cream of wheat, entree, potatoes, toast, baked goods and coffee/tea. Bring your appetite.

Sunday morning is a long wait, even longer for the food. I got a mushroom omelet which was a basic omelet- good but not fantastic. The give you a basket of white and wheat bread. They only take cash. Great outdoor patio covered in grape vines that is beautiful. Portuguese family with lots of Portuguese dishes on the menu. Good for basic meal.

I am on a French toast crusade this year. The French toast with sweet bread was awesome and as good as any I've had to date. Only downer was lack of WiFi.

We were taken to this great place by a native of Somerville. The place had friendly staff and a great breakfast was had by all. We were their late morning on a sunday and had a long wait. Luckily it was sunny and worth the wait about 30 minutes. The place is small but nice. They also have outside space for lunch weather permitting. Opening soon.

Terrific food. Long wait. Seated elbow to elbow. Great food - one of the best omelets I've had recently. Cream of Wheat or baked apple starters are like a dessert. Free Coffee is available outside while you wait - which on a rainy, cold day was a huge help!

I was pleased to see that The neighbourhood Restaurant was still a popular place --i had not been in 28 yrs, since moving away. So we had to try it. It's really good. Not great but really good. Friendly. generous portions. Homemade items. A really good neighborhood place.

This is my regular breakfast place. We eat here about 6 times a year. They have an all inclusive breakfast special featuring eggs, potatoes, their great home made cream of wheat , juice and unlimited coffee and rolls..all for $6!! AND it is great..the service is great. During the warm months they have outdoor seating in their terrace with a vineyard type of atmosphere.

The Neighborhood is just that... an institution that people in our neighborhood love to enjoy, especially in the summer. The breakfasts are famous. The younger set line up starting around 9:30am on Saturdays and Sundays during the summertime to enjoy massive breakfasts under the grape arbors. We tend to eat breakfast here only when we have family or friends visiting, prefer weekdays when it is just us an the DPW workers. Just recently, we went to the Neighborhood for lunch and discovered a whole new experience. The sandwiches came with a homemade, and delicious, soup. It was called "chicken soup" but was filled with Portuguese favorites like cabbage, carrots, and leeks. The cod cakes are the real deal!!! Baccala fish fried into small finger shaped cakes– no potato filler. The five cakes were served with both tartar and a bright and spicy pepper sauce, plus the frozen fries. The chicken sandwich was a very good version, served on their fabulous homemade bread.

I always take my grandkids here when we have time during a visit. They love the pancakes and waffles and there are tons of other options for me. This time I shared the cheese and bacon omelet with my husband, who decided to come along with us. It comes with home fries and toast and was very good. We got there at 11:15 on MLK holiday and there were already 4 groups ahead of us on the waiting list. We waited about 30 minutes to get in. There is free coffee and sweet bread outside for those in line. In the summer, they serve outdoors under a grape arbor, and there is often a line, but it moves quickly. Our waiter was great, listening carefully to the kids' orders so they got just what they wanted - chocolate chip pancakes for one and Mickey Mouse pancake for the other - with whipped cream on the side, home fries and bacon. Before you even order, they bring coffee and orange juice. Then you get your choice of Cream of Wheat with cinnamon or fresh fruit. That Cream of Wheat is awesome - we all love it. My grandson didn't want any, but the waiter noticed his expression when ours was served and asked if he wanted to change his mind - he did. I only mention this because they were SO busy and our waiter still took the time to give us excellent service. Their menu is online. There are healthy choices, but I didn't notice any strictly vegan ones. This is not fine dining - more like home cooking, with good portions. I haven't had lunch here, but definitely a great place for breakfast or brunch!

A wonderful place for breakfast. Be sure to arrive hungry, the portions are large. The staff is very attentive and the service is prompt. The pancakes were delicious, the eggs cooked to order. A must try if you are in Somerville, MA.

The Air B&B home I stayed at for a few nights was only three blocks away and decided to walk here two days in a row, getting there right at opening time, 7:00am. That was a good decision, as I was leaving, it got A LOT busier. The food here is GREAT!!! The first day, I had the neighborhood cheese omelet, with home fries, the AWESOME cream of wheat, toast, small muffin and orange juice. The second morning, I had three eggs, languica, fried banana, home fries, toast, cream of wheat, small muffin and tea. Both breakfasts cost $10.00 or less. I enjoyed practicing my limited Portuguese a little(muito obrigado). It was a VERY good experience!!!!! The customers were all very nice, as well as the waitresses and staff. I would go back again when in the area for a certainty!!!

First time here last Sunday. Outdoor seating is nice with grape loaded grape vines shading from the sun. Casual, friendly atmosphere with a Portuguese flavor. Lots to choose from and weekly/daily specials. I had the Portuguese Breakfast which is basically a sampling of a number of items on the breakfast menu. All were good and I recommend it. They give you juice to start. They have mimosas, which are good. The only real negative is the coffee which is "eh". They need to work on that.

With careful weekday or early weekend visiting, you will avoid getting to know tens of others waiting for their turn at this popular establishment. In good weather the outdoor tables are a treat with eclectic decoration and a grape vine sun shade overhead. On our visit we tried one of the breakfast specials and wisely chose to split it. A Belgian waffle with whipped topping and berries/bananas, frest fruit cup, OJ, and toast for two, generous scrambled eggs, bottomless coffee. We had a 1PM departing flight and comfortably full till dinnertime at our destination. Hopefully not our last visit.

This is a great place for breakfast. Great pancakes. Fabulous cream of wheat. Homemade basket of goodies. Nice variety of breakfast choices. Love sitting under the grapevine in the summer then getting a jar of jelly to take home after the grapes ripen. Nice sweet bread , perfectly cooked. So delicious. At Easter time they sell different size sweet bread with eggs . Always a family treat.

Have been coming to Neighborhood for over 20 years and anytime family/friends come to visit I make sure that this is one of the spots I take them for a great and satisfying breakfast!!! In the late morning there might be a line but don't be discouraged the wait is well worth it and you could serve yourself some coffee while you wait. The staff is courteous and the cream of wheat is to die for. I've tried to make it myself but it doesn't compare to the deliciousness that is offered at Neighborhood. Breakfast comes with coffee, O.J. and cream of wheat or fresh fruit. They also bring you an array of homemade fresh baked breads and jams. So, next time you're in the area make sure to stop at Neighborhood will not regret it!!!
