Disney Character Breakfast!!! Much better than the ones in Orlando because it's less crowded.

I have to say I'm not a big fan of buffets except for Makahiki, this place is awesome! And being a Disney property why would I even be surprised? My husband and I have come here several times most recently with some new friends that we met recently. Once again the food did not disappoint. The setting for dinner is beautiful and we really love the outdoor views and live music. There's so much food to choose from and everything is delicious. We especially love their shrimp, crab legs, the fish selection is always delicious as well as the pasta selections and the desserts are absolutely yummy. Can't wait to go back!

This restaurant is a buffet for dinner and it's pretty pricey. So for a special night we thought we'd treat ourselves. We got dressed up and when asked if we were celebrating we told them yes our anniversary. So the hostess shows us to a table that presently has a woman standing beside it holding a child whose feet are all over our table. The hostess does nothing and we ask (before we sit down even) if it can be cleaned. She huffily goes off gets a damp cloth that looked gross and wipes it and is like enough? Like am I asking too much here? I am amazed that she hasn't noticed the table isn't level on the floor, in fact it's so crooked I can't see a plate being able to stay put! So she realizes after I mention this that I'm obviously a difficult person so with some annoyance she gives us another table. We're not there long and a large group comes in. That's fine except what the waiters do...they start dragging chairs across the room making a deafening sound so the noise in the room increases by several decibels. I don't understand why management wouldn't have taught them to actually pick up the chair!!! So needless to say this restaurant had no ambiance, no quiet to relax and enjoy your meal. The buffet was basic. Crabs legs, roast beef and ham were the mains everything else was just fillers. I won't do this again and don't recommend. Oh and for our anniversary my husband actually asked for a special dessert and it was awful! Stale hard red velvet cake. This should have been an embarrassment to them. Save your money and go somewhere else!

This is a decent buffet, it's convenient and easy. Kids are considered an adult at age 9, this is a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Do the character breakfast, it's fun but wait until the last day otherwise kids will want to do it every day.

We thought we were going to a character meal, but apparently that is only at certain times. Regardless, the buffet was full of delicious food and our server was wonderful!

Makahiki, on the grounds of the Aulani Resort in Ko Olina, serves an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy walk around and provide a joyful time for the young children - I guess, for the adults too. It's rather pricey, but we went for the experience of watching our 2, 4, and 6 year old granddaughters have a great time interacting with the characters. That was priceless! The food was pretty good too.

The buffet dinner was pretty good food, but with drinks for the 4 of us we spent over $300! There are a lot of things to spend money on at Aulani, I'm not sure this was worth it. (The kids drinks were as much as the "adult" drinks.)

Although this buffet is expensive and mediocre at best, I was more than impressed by the attention they paid to my son's allergies. When we made the reservation, they had record of his allergies from two years ago! And, when we were seated this time, the chef came to our table and discussed what my son would like for dinner and then made him a safe and delicious meal. Fabulous attention to detail and we all enjoyed the meal so much because of it!

The food was wonderful. It was a buffet style and the food on there was well above average cafeteria buffet quality. Really diverse selection of foods. The seafood was plentiful and not soggy or overcooked like buffet fare can sometimes get. Nice selection of sushi. Some Americana items. Mini buffet for the Keiki (children) with all their favorites like pizza, chicken nuggets and macaroni. The desserts were pretty and tasty. We did not stay on the Aulani resort. We stayed next door but Makahiki makes the character meals available as a reservation. We arrived and it was a bit of a cluster at the hostess stand--which sometimes happens when you have kids involved and photos at the entrance area. Once we were seated however, we had a wonderful waitress. She was so personable and friendly, I think I recall her name being Susan and she was very kind. We sat in the lanai area and the open air dining was very nice. As to the "character" portion of the dinner. We had Stitch and Chip there and they made their way around the tables. Those were the only Disney Characters there. "Uncle" came in and told stories and sang some songs. The acoustics/microphone really stunk however and it was difficult to hear him unless he was wondering around in your vicinity. There were a couple times kids were encouraged to participate but because it was almost impossible to hear you really didn't know what was happening till he was marching past with the children and everyone in our area really didn't have a chance to join along. As far as Disney goes the upstairs gift shop is filled with Moana. How could you not take advantage of a Polynesian princess at a Hawaiian resort during this Character Dinner? Ariel could definitely have been utilized as well. Hello, she's a fish and it's an island. That whole experience being sold as a Character meal could definitely be beefed up. Again, the food was great--the "Disney Experience" not so much.

If your kids love Mickey, Minnie and crew, this breakfast is perfect for your family. This is our 3rd one to experience (also done them at DL and DW), and was our favorite. Possibly it helps that our kids - 2, 4, and 6 - are now old enough to enjoy both the food and entertainment. Tons of great food options on the buffet, and all were good for my entire crew. Service was excellent and overall it was a very memorable experience for our Valentines Day breakfast.

This place is great if you want to spend a really long time eating average buffet food. I say a long time, because your kids will want to participate and take pictures with the same characters they've seen 5 times already. The food was mediocre, with nothing standing out. Many dishes were bland and the choices are somewhat limited when compared to other buffets. Drinks were above average, and service was good. Value definitely not there. Don't come here for the food...come to entertain your kids while you get some grub.

This place has amazing selection. The price is not cheap, but you get more selection than say, Ama Ama. Make reservations as it gets busy, unless you're ok with waiting. And if waiting, go to the bar for drinks first.

Great food and plenty of options on the buffet. Okay, we over ate a little but had to try everything - almost. Servers were all very good.

You need a Reservation for most dinners. They do walkin's on some nights but you may have to wait. Most Disney Resorts around the world require reservations during peak times. The Buffet was wonderful. I could have eaten just the large shrimp, sushi and crab legs for the price paid. It is not cheap but it is Hawaii and you get what you pay for. There was a carving station for Prime Rib, Ham and Pork. Coffee, tea, ice tea and sodas come with the Buffet. The dinner does not have Disney Characters walking around that only happens at Breakfast.

During our stay at Aulani, we were surprised that as resort guests, we had to get reservations for breakfast on the morning after our arrival. We did get in to the character breakfast on the wait-list. Breakfast was good, with a fairly extensive variety of items to choose from--even the pickiest of eaters will find something they would like. It is served buffet style and the kids are constantly entertained by Disney characters (we had Chip, Dale and Stitch visit our table for photos and hugs) and the atmosphere was incredibly pleasant at our outdoor/lanai table by the koi pond.

Prices were high and food was good. We justified the total bill as it was the perfect place for a celebration. Services was good - attentive a small good check-ins as we ate our meal..

Def a kids trap with the disney characters available. Food was absolutely atrocious, only good thing about this place was the availability of taking pictures with mickey for the little ones.

We made reservations for this character breakfast as our one year old loves Minnie, and we were not disappointed! We started our meal after checking in by waiting in a line to see Mickey, which took a while, but the staff was accommodating and efficient, and gave us plenty of time for pictures and interaction. We were seated outside in a lovely area near the koi pond. Our server was attentive and fun, and kept our drinks full and plates cleared. The buffet was typical breakfast food plus some special dishes, including made to order omelets. The food was presented well and refilled quickly. Minnie and Pluto came to our table and interacted with us, so much fun! Auntie spends some time with whoever wants to get up and and dance and play instruments with her, the kids seemed to love it. We were not rushed, and loved our touch of Disney during our stay. We would highly recommend this for families who love the characters and good food!

If you like buffets and are okay with spending a fair amount of money for it and you're staying at Aulani, this is the place for you! First off, make reservations in advance. This dining experience is the one everyone wants to have for several reasons so do that first. They offer the buffet two times a day: breakfast and dinner. The breakfast has everything from waffles, pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit to made to order omelets and juices. The dinner has lots of meats including the infamous kalua pork. It's a must have with anyone of the sauces. Before you go in they typically have you get your picture with Mickey outside which is always fun. During the buffet time they also have several characters come around to the tables for pictures and dancing. "Auntie" is your host and she walks around the buffet singing and dancing and getting all the kids involved. It's a lot of fun. Service is great. Food is great. Everything is replenished fast. There's something for everyone and the kids will have a blast.

While staying at Aulani we ate at the dinner buffet (without Disney characters) at Makahiki. There was a carving station with prime rib and ham. There was a variety of seafood including pouched shrimp, crab legs, Jonah crab claws, salmon, mussels, oysters on the half shell, and poke. There was also chicken, pork loin, pizza, tortellini in alfredo sauce, and rigatoni in red sauce. There were mashed potatoes, rice, steamed bok choy, broccoli, and ratatouille. There was plenty to choose from, all good, except the rigatoni I had was dried out. Of course there was also a varied selection of dessert items such as fresh baked cookies, molten chocolate cake, pineapple cobbler and coconut cake to name a few. Our waitress, Natasha, was very pleasant & attentive; always clearing our plates during our visits to the buffet. It was expensive at $47 per adult, but we thought it was worth it for the quality and number of items to choose from on the buffet. All in all it was a pleasant evening out.
