The Freehand Miami is NOT a hotel to stay in, thanks to the 2am party going on in the courtyard 3 stories below in the hotel-sponsored normal weekend party. Music is screaming, people as drunk as they want, talking and yelling to be heard. I'm on the 3rd floor and that roar is louder than a conversation in the room with my wife. Good when I was 22, but I'm I'm not 22. I paid for a room to sleep in. The front desk basically said "too bad". This place SUCKS. And their breakfasts are biscuits, toast, dry cereal and mini-muffins and don't start until 8AM. Oh yeah, the coffee is bad, too. If you're actually looking for a place to sleep, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE.

I'm a bit older than most of the guests but nonetheless I had an enjoyable stay that was both comfortable and convenient. The staff at front desk exceptional and helpful, always greeting with a smile. I only have one complaint yet its not that serious, I attempted to use both token for free cocktail to have bar staff send me everywhere...then discover no drinks as ran out...clearly due to young dudes with about five cups each at their table. Then breakfast was an active herd of young men reaching with bare hands as many muffins as their hands could grab, coffee ran out too. Any who, my bed was comfy and the cleaning crew could've come through at least once to tidy up f!more/ bathroom. I'd definitely come again as convenient to everything.

My stay at the Freehand has been great. The rooms are clean and spacious, there is a nice swimming pool, where you meet people of all over the world, the staff is great as well and besides that it has one of the best cocktail bars of the city. Cheap , cheerful and excellent.

Friendly and helpful service from all staff e.g. receptionist and bar staff at The Broken Shaker. I stayed in a king size room as treat for finishing my month long trip away to America and Canada and what a spacious room it was. Very clean, beach/seaside themed room and had added amenities such as mini bar, toiletries and Freehand branded robes. The hostel is situated in a central location on south beach with a short walk to main streets such as Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road or the famous Art Deco District Ocean Drive is good 20 minutes or so away. Lots of attractions in the area to see/do. With only one day in the city I was limited on time so I took a Big Bus Hop on & off tour bus to see a bit more of the city. I used the Beach (blue) loop and City (red) loop and managed to see more of the city. I stopped off to see the Wynwood Art Walls as have an interest in art & design and also stopped off near Ocean Drive to check out those Art Deco buildings too. Overall a wonderful experience in a fascinating city that I would love to visit again sometime soon!

I hate writing reviews, b/c I'm everyone's highlighted all the features. Clean, amazingly fun, super cheap, best people, and pool. Two blocks from a quiet beach, short uber to SoBe. Probably the best hostel in America. I will be back.

A dormitory-style room at the Freehand is a little more expensive than other hostels in Miami Beach, but this place is absolutely worth the price. This homey, eclectic hostel is located just outside South Beach's most congested areas and is a close, safe walk to the beach and nightlife. I stayed in an eight-person dorm, and the L-shaped room was spacious. I never felt too cramped, even when the space was fully occupied. Our room also came with two full bathrooms, and each bed had a shelf along the wall, a bedside table, clothing hooks, and a personal lamp. The complimentary breakfast was standard and was served out of the hostel kitchen, which was a little out of the way from the main hostel. To get to it, guests must walk through the gardens and the bar and pool areas, so the scenery made up for the trek. The hostel also offers a complimentary happy hour each day.

Freehand is the best. Perfect chill out spot where you can spend the day by the pool having drinks and hanging out. Great to meet interesting people. The Broken Shaker bar always has the best drinks. It's also just a block away from the beach. The private room was simple but comfortable. It's not much, but for the price it's a good deal.

Moved here from the Faena Hotel following Hurricane damage. A very different hotel to the Faena but this little gem is eclectic and quirky offering an original Miami experience - part Cuban, part Native American, part funk - sights sounds and smells engage you immediately. Rooms are small but practical and a little noisy but no bother, enjoyed our stay

I couldn't take a hot shower during the three days that I stayed there. Very cool bar and pool scene though. The whole place has a Wes Anderson aesthetic which was very cool but I don't think that I would stay there again.

Very happy i chose this hotel. Got it all. Location is superb. helpfull staff, but they didnt communicate very much. Pool, bar and restaurant. Also yoga in the mornings. The breakfast could have been a lot better. Free drink at 17 oclock every day, if you ask, no one tell you.

Located near the famous Collins avenue, this place is a precise 5 minute walk from the beach. It has got mix of sleeping options, one of them being a 8 bed mixed dorm which has two washrooms and a locker for each bed, all located inside a nice keycard -accessible room. Each bed has a reading lamp and 3 power outlets for charging your phones etc. Some of the corner rooms are located right over the pool and the famous Broken Shaker bar. You can see both without even getting out of bed if your part the curtains! The music from the bar does creep into the second floor, but far from being disturbing, it's at a soft decibel level which is actually relaxing. Overall a place to breathe easy and escape the south beach madness.

Whenever I go to Miami Beach South Beach Florida I stay at the freehand hostel. The most clean, comfy beds along with spotless surroundings in an exotic tropical environment. The broken Shaker bar mixes up the most delicious drinks. The locals hang out here all weekend long. Absolutely the best bang for your buck. Get here!

It's a shame that it rained so much during our stay because the pool/bar area outside was probably the nicest part of this hostel. The 4 bed dorm was clean and comfortable, albeit very dark and dingy feeling even in the brightest part of the day. The daily free punch for guests between 5-6pm was a nice addition, although hard to track down at times (we stayed 3 nights and it was in a different location each time). The kitchen space/breakfast area was tiny and you could barely move around if there were 4 or more people in there - probably the worst of all hostels I stayed in USA. Location was good in a quieter, less hectic part of Miami Beach - a nice stroll along the beach boardwalk to South Beach. I would stay here again.

Definitely one of the most unique places I've ever paid to stay. The 3rd star is for the bar with its unique drinks and the overall vibe which is laid back and friendly. The rooms however, leave a lot to be desired.

I stayed at the Freehand Miami for 6 nights in July 2017. It was my first time staying in a hostel. The location is awesome. You are literally a block away from the beach. There is a lot of construction going on right now so it might be difficult to get an Uber or you might have to walk to meet them because some of the roads near the hostel are closed to traffic. The rooms were very large and spacious and I stayed in an 8 bunk female dorm. You're provided a locker to store your valuables but you are responsible for bringing your own lock. There were always fresh towels available however the light bulb for my lamp in my bunk was out and when I went to the front desk to ask for a new one I was told to take it from another bunk. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of the night so that was not an option. When I spoke to the housekeeper in the morning she mentioned that maintenance would be in later and she would let them know. The bathroom was cleaned daily and I felt comfortable and relaxed during my stay. I was mostly only there to sleep after spending the day out in the city. If you're looking for luxury look elsewhere but if you just need a place to crash and aren't too picky I definitely recommend Freehand. There is a bar in the building and I could hear people and music during the night but I am not a light sleeper so it didn't bother me. If you are sensitive to noise you might want to pass as it is very active throughout the day and night. The bartender we met was super sweet and friendly even though we arrived pretty much as she was shutting down for the night. Being in the hospitality industry I know how annoying that can be but we didn't know what time the bar closed so it wasn't on purpose. Regardless she made us a drink and served us with a smile! Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Freehand and if I'm back in Miami I will definitely stay there again.

Arrived alone in the afternoon and the staff were so friendly. The 4-pers rooms are in good condition and the air condition is life saving in the heat! I travelled solo, but in three days I met so many nice people. The atmosphere, the pool and surroundings are just perfect. One of the best hostels I've visited!

It's a whirlwind of fun and craziness at this Miami Beach youth hostel. It would be a very fun place for folks in their 20's for sure!! But, it may be an upscale youth hostel , but it's still a youth hostel . Rooms and hallways are spartan and somewhat depressing. But, pool and bars are fun and I'm sure a good time would be had!!!! To be honest, I didn't stay here but I walked around and saw a few rooms and common spaces .
