Sitting on the beach watching people play miniature golf with the lights of a ferris wheel reflecting off of the breaking waves under a California sunset…indescribable.

Good spot for outdoor activities, open beach, windy area. You need to be Super lucky if you want to park inside. Beware of some people who dressed up with costumes and intending to take photos with you. They will con you to pay! Also, I think the restaurants there are overpriced.

We went as a group of 6 (my husband and I, his parents, his sister and her boyfriend), and we all very much enjoyed our visit. We had purchased the LA Go card, which saved us a lot on tourist attractions. A wristband for the rides at the pier were included in this, and this helped a lot as they were VERY expensive for what they were! However we were there mid week in the evening and got to go round on the ferris wheel about 6 times before they took us off, and the rollercoaster twice each time as they weren't busy. The small drop tower and Shark Frenzy were a lot of fun too. The pier itself offered beautiful views, good entertainment and some good food - Pier Burger in particular was a great choice for food as it was relatively cheap and a great burger.

Don't get me wrong, santa monica is a nice place to be. I am specifically referring to the pier in question. It's like they crammed a carnival on the dock which is now very old very dirty very crowded and honestly without the beach as it's surrounding, I'd give it zero stars. Nothing to see here don't waste your time

Pretty cool place to hang out at night. Not much activities though, just walking up and down the pier. Did not enter the fair area as too crowded for a family with a child sitting in the stroller.

Santa Monica pier was super pretty. I've never seen anything like it. My husband and I were visiting L.A. and decided to drive to the pier, which was a 30 minute drive from downtown L.A. where we were staying. We parked on the pier for $15 and then waltzed to the restrooms right next to the parking lot. It was an absolutely beautiful day. It's a great place for selfies and to spend time with someone awesome. I also got a mangonada from a fruit stand on the pier. It was very yummy, but I'm pretty sure they jipped me. Good thing I was in a good mood. It's not very big, but definitely go check it out. It looks like a southern California postcard.

People all over the world have seen the Santa Monica pier portrayed in various movies and TV shows. The real thing is much better. Plenty of street vendors, beach type shops, seafood restaurants, and of course the iconic Santa Monica pier amusement center. No visitors to LA should skip this experience

It's a family oriented place to visit. Lots to do for the family. Rides for the kiddos. Trapeze school for the athletically adventurous and lots of souvenirs to waste money on. The views are nice and the place was fun to people watch and see the side street entertainers.

We found the pier to be a good afternoon out and was on our list of things to do in California. We parked down the road for a flat fee of $20. The pier itself can be difficult for those using a wheelchair as the boards aren't easy to manoeuvre on. Our kids enjoyed the games and rides at Pacific Park. It wasn't too expensive. We really enjoyed the aquarium downstairs and our kids loved getting up close and touching some of the sea creatures that are different from home. Lots to do, many vendors, variety of food options.

Lovely place to visit, with a bit of nostalgia attached. Plenty to see for both adults and kids. Eateries busy, but plenty of choice nearby. Parking on seafront expensive, use the multi-storey in shopping area.

A fun place to walk; the colored Ferris wheel at night is a must see. some pier fishing is available for $4.00 per hour. eateries are mostly carnival food and the shops are touristy.

Best place i have been to based on movie locations. I couldn't ask for it to be more authentic. Enjoyed the rides and not so much the food but the experience was worth it

The variety of humanity, smells and sounds just totally amazes me at the Santa Monica Pier no matter when I visit. Yes, the boards are getting worn out, the concessions sell cheap goods but the overall experience of the sea air and live entertainment is worth it. Go with an open mind and take it in.

We were in area on a coach trip, stopped off here for about 3 hours to stroll pier & beach. Lovely warm day, busy tourist area, but we really enjoyed it. Plenty of choice up pier if fancy bite to eat. Got some great pictures aswell.

Not that interested in venues such as this. The old pier structure is great, but the carnival atmosphere is just not that exciting. Vendors are overpriced. Suggest walking around it and looking at it, but not doing anything on it.

Not worth a detour. Scruffy and very tired, particularly when compared to piers in UK and elsewhere in Europe; it could have been so much better but probably beyond recovery now.

Enjoyed the half day at the pier. Parking in area is a complete rip off. Best to load a parking app on your smartphone and find some meter parking if you can. I would do it if I were a first time visitor. Next time - I think hiring a bike would make it worth a second look. Street entertainers in vicinity are excellent. Felt very safe.
