It’s difficult to know where to start with this hotel...I think that it’s very good but it’s not without faults, some of those faults would maybe be a problem for some guests. The first thing that will strike you about this hotel is the amount of wood used in the renovation of the early 18th century is everywhere. Highly polished and of very high quality, this does rather lend a feeling of darkness to both the public areas and rooms. Anyway...I think the best way to break this down is as follows: RECEPTION: Very easy process and checking in was quick and easy. The reception area is small but perfectly adequate for this relatively small hotel (in terms of number of rooms). I would say that the welcome wasn’t as warm as it could have been but it was efficient. ROOMS: I know that every room will be different, mine was a double. Room size is fine, though not large. Large wooden frame for the bed, wooden beams cover the ceiling, heavy wooden furnishings, one small arched window looking out onto the River Vistula. The room had no ceiling light and was lit by various lamps set around the room. I would say that the lighting wasn’t really adequate but others might disagree. Bathroom was adequate but I found the corner shower unit to be a little on the small side. I wouldn’t have been able to bend down to pick up a dropped item being 6ft tall!! For those who need this...there’s no air conditioning though I did have an electric fan within the room. It was November, I didn’t need it. PUBLIC AREAS: Simply wonderful...highly polished dark wood everywhere. Very atmospheric and classy. Loved it but, again, quite dark. BREAKFAST: Included and astonishing considering the size of the hotel. I have stayed in hotels with hundreds of rooms where the breakfast isn’t as good as it is here. Fantastic quality, beautifully set out and copious amounts of each item. This is a five thumbs up breakfast!! THE ISSUES: I was on the 3rd floor (of 4) but it was quite noisy. Wooden floors mean that anyone who is heavy footed could be clearly heard in my room. Also had two evenings when children were heard running around!! One night there was also a function two floors below and the loud base could be clearly heard, and felt, in my room. Now the noise tended to finish at around 10pm and I don’t recall being disturbed much later, but it could become a problem. CONCLUSION: This place isn’t perfect, it is noisy on occasions but I would still happily return...if you’re looking for quirky and character this place is very much worth the effort...I will return.

My hotel before this was in Gdansk and cost the same, but this one is probably twice as good in every way. The conversion of an old granery has been really well done and I love all the big wooden beams. My room was a good size and the bathroom was fine. I did not have any sort of lugage rack so had to put my bag on the end of the desk. The staff were helpful and efficient and the breakfast is one of the best I have had. I did not try the restaurant in an evening because they only have one white and red wine by the glass and the white looked very ordinary. Overall this is a very good place to stay and I definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed my night's stay. The hotel has been skilfully converted out of an 18th century Swedish granary. I had a comfortable single room with a view to the Vistula. The breakfast buffet was enormous, with all sorts of Polish dishes that I've not seen elsewhere.

Wow...if u want a luxury hotel, without luxury prices- in Torun, this is where you should stay. Situated just on the river with pictoresque views all around. On entering the courtyard, you know this is somewhere special. The hotel is so beautiful. The interior is modern yet traditional and the staff are suberb. Our room was a duplex and had beautiful wood beams, ceilings and furniture. Walking up to the bedroom on the upper floor we realised the staff had left us dressing gowns and slippers- lovely touch. There is a/c in all rooms which is definately needed in the warmer months. The prices are so reasonable and definately worth the extra zlotys. We stayed here for 1 night, booking the whole hotel, with our family and friends for a wedding- it was perfect. Im really sad to be leaving today and wished we had book our whole holiday here.

Perfect location for sightseeing. This hotel is located in an old granary within a short walking distance to the town square. Our room was comfortable with a window and view of the Vistula River. We were on the third floor, adjacent to a set of stairs at the bottom of which seemed to be a dining room for large parties, which could make it somewhat noisy in the early evening if your window was open. Since room did not appear to have A/C our window was always open but we were typically out or at the very least getting dressed to go out and by our return, the dining area was quiet. Restaurant was very good with the exception of several waitstaff. Several of the waiters and bar staff were exceptional. The exceptions to this were the morning waitstaff and short order cook. The waitstaff cleared the dishes away so quickly without asking if the customer was finished. I got up to get coffee from the buffet and when I returned my entire dining area had been cleared even though my purse and phone were on the table. I ordered a fried egg from the cook and received what appeared to be two scrambled eggs with the shells neatly spread out within the scramble. Language appeared to be a problem initially (English vs Polish) in the dining area but my companion is fluent in Polish and had trouble with this particular staff. All in all, good restaurant if you are just planning on having meals and no interaction with the morning waitstaff.

The views, decor, amenities and breakfast were simply outstanding! It was ultra clean and had a very modern bathroom. It's hard to believe this was once an 18th century granary. The exposed beams have been meticulously restored, while the amenities are new. It was very quiet despite being a few minutes walk from the city center. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was beyond unbelievable: eggs or omelets to order, pancakes, fresh fruits, cheeses, pastries, homemade yogurt, meats, and breads. All were the highest quality and served in a lovely, relaxing setting. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer! We highly recommend the Hotel Spichrz.

We stayed at the Spichrz while visiting Torun and our stay was okay. The room 305 was small and overlooked the river. The bed was a little too hard for us and the rooms decor of rustic wood wasn't exactly our style. The location was very convenient and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was fantastic.

Incredible large room in old wooden decor, comfortable beds, good views, big bathroom. Breakfast was incomparable as you will see in the pics. Hotel very historic and also close to town and the views over the river.

A very unique, special hotel, this is the hotel you will never forget. Walls are probably 2 feet thick but our room had at least 5 windows if not more, great cross breeze on hot summer day. Breakfast is fantastic, unbelievable variety of polish foods.

We were delighted with this hotel. We got put into a room that had two floors connected with wooden stairs, each with its own bathroom. We had river views and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in the old town, a short walk from the attractions such as the Planetarium and Gingerbread museum, and a few minutes walk from the bus station. After here we travelled onto Gdansk for 5zl with Polskibus booked in advance. :)

I don't know what I may add to the compliments that the hotel's guests already expressed regarding the hotel. This time I stayed in “studio” room and I was satisfied even more then my previous visit. This two levels room is perfect if you are traveling with children or just if you like more space almost for the same money as the regular room. The hotel's restaurant is still perfect too.

We took a 2-floors apartment. It was comfortable, not really my style though. GREAT restaurant - amazing breakfast with eco food, worth coming by even if you're staying somewhere else. Big "-" for lack of spa. We needed to go to another hotel to relax. Free parking for guests.

The hotel is beautifully designed with the contemporary sitting alongside the traditional. I would highly recommend paying extra for a deluxe apartment. The choice at breakfast is very wide, and the evening meals served in the same restaurant are excellent. My only complaint is that it was too hot. The heating was up so high it made me uncomfortable at night but it was Poland in October and it was around 2 degrees outside.

We couldn't quite believe it when the GPS told us to turn right through an ancient gateway in the town's massive riverside fortifications and then announced that we had 'reached our destination'; but the Hotel Spichrz was right there, tucked in behind the pub/restaurant of the same name. There was even a space free in their tiny parking lot, which was a real bonus, as we didn't spot any secure off-street parking in the historic centre of Torun. The hotel's reception area and 'service' side of the building are modern, but the rooms, which in our case offered amazing views across the icy Vistula, were straight out of the 17th century, with exposed wooden beams and, at the end of the corridor, a Gdansk-style mechanical crane for hoisting up sacks of grain into the granary (or 'spichrz'). The amenities were fully 21st-century, though, with a good-sized bathroom and a massive desk area. The free wifi was faster than London... Breakfast was served in the pub/restaurant on the street side of the property: staff outnumbered guests in a ratio of about 3:1, so we were well looked after, with eggs-to-order and fancy teas and coffees readily on tap. All the historic sights were within a 5/10-minute walk. We would happily have stayed longer.

The hotel has an old world charm. Its exposed loft like timber and thick brick walls place you back in time. At the same time, it has all the conveniences of a modern hotel. I ended up with a two story room that was huge! Both floors were specious with two single meds downstairs and a king size med upstairs. The room could easily sleep more than four adults. And the nice part about it was two bathrooms. A full bath upstairs and half bath down stairs. The accommodations were modest but clean and nice. The room and hotel were clean and the staff was always courteous. And you can’t beat the location as it is located within the walls of old town of Torun and steps from the Vistula river. I would stay there again.

Situated withing the old medieval walls of the old town - everything is walkable. The hotel is on the river so it is possible to get a view overlooking it. There is free wifi with a strong signal. Our room was, although very clean, very basic and a lot of wood going on! Bed not comfy. Breakfast was a disappointment - not a whole lot of choice and I had to go out and buy cornflakes to take in with me. The hotel has no atmosphere - but that could be the time of year. Staff were very pleasant and did their best to help. There are 4 spaces for car parking at the hotel at 30ZL a night. It is fine for what it is.

I absolutely loved this hotel. It is really attractive - a restored granary - huge timbers in the walls and ceilings. I loved looking at the pictures on the 3rd floor of the original building before it had been restored and turned into a hotel. What an amazing feat! The staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really excellent - so much choice and a lot of home-made fare (soft cheeses, jams). We ate in the restaurant in the evening too and that is worth recommending also. A fun menu with its generous sharing platters and metre long sausage. We had the meat platter which was delicious. There is a 'games' floor with a little library, comfy chairs and snooker table. We had a digestif there while our kids (10 yr old twins) played snooker. it was super. The hotel is located just by the river - which looked lovely - and it was also good for visiting the town. This was only a stop over for us on the way to Warsaw, but we wished we'd taken more time in Torun which is a very pretty town. The only downside was that it was a hot day (over 30c) and night and the rooms were very hot indeed, despite the two fans provided; my husband found it very difficult to sleep.

If you visit Torun, this hotel in a building of several hundred years old granary is perfect place for your stay. Located just next to the old city walls it is less than 50 meters from Wisla river and whole old city center is within 15 minutes of walk. I visited this hotel with my wife and 2 sons, we got an attic maisonnette apartment with view on the basilica on one side and Wisla river on the other. The apartment was clean, spacious and full of light with beautifully renovated old wooden beams so it was literally full of wood and it smell beautifully. Parking was for free but beware of narrow roads of old city with many one ways. We stayed in the hotel only for one night on our trip to Baltic sea so we enjoyed only breakfast there and it was amazing. Breakfast is available for payment also to non-guests and it consists of many local and locally prepared dishes including various cheese, pastes, pastries etc. Moreover there was a person waiting for your orders on omelettes and such. Simply wonderful. I will gladly recommend this hotel to everyone planning a stay in medieval and still living city of Torun.
