If you’re looking for a little workout with your relaxation, head to New Zealand’s Hot Water Beach, where you have to dig your own spot to soak. Before and after low tides, the hole you dig will fill with spring-fed water that contains plenty of natural minerals. Located south of the North Island’s Mercury Bay, this is a communal beach area that’s especially popular during the December-to-March summer months.

Very cost and sharing place to relax and enjoy a coffee or great smoothies. Very good breakfast if one rather likes it sweet than having sausages etc in the morning

We came for the top10 coffee deal and stayed for the amazing breakfast. Had the best porridge and banana pancakes of our trip. One of the best cafe breakfasts Ive ever had. Well done.

Not easy to find, but worth to make the drive to Hot Water Beach, just for this place. Food, staff, service, location are all excellent Meals are quite big, so value if your hungry This is where many of the locals go in the weekends, beach and excellent gift shop nearby. Heard there's also activities organised during the week nights

We recently stayed at the Top 10 Camp at Hot Water beach and as the fish and chip shop was closed for off season we went looking for somewhere to eat - how lucky we were to find Hot Waves. The staff were very friendly and the food delicious and well priced. They also prepared salad and food for us to take back to our cabin for dinner.

This is a very popular eatery, and you can see why. Great atmosphere, wonderful food and coffees. Warm tea cups. Very clean and beautifully decorated.

Brunch was delicious. The menu had a good range to choose from, and the meals we got were delicious, there is also a good range of cabinet food available. Our meals did take awhile to arrive, but it gave us time to enjoy the lovely outdoor setting.

Delicious breakfast! Thoroughly enjoyed our meals, lovely ambience and helpful advice on the hot water beach. Can hire spades if need be too and have a small selection of souvenirs. The key rings are really cool! Also has free wifi.

I visit this cafe often and from the very first time I was impressed. For a start it's always open. You won't make the drive for coffee and find it closed ever. The staff are friendly and welcoming and treat everyone like a regular. The service is fast and efficient with all of the staff capable of doing anything needed. I've eaten here on many occasions and the consistency is great. The big breakfast is perfect and exactly the same every time. The burgers are huge and tasty and the burritos and quesadillas are delicious. My family have tried a lot on the menu and never been disappointed. One thing to try is the open mic night on Friday. Come along and listen to a bunch of local musicians and eat some nice food. Hotwaves is a great place for any big event too with its more private back room or garden areas. After being letdown by the quality of other nearby places Hotwaves has far exceeded my expectation. Go there.

Great cafe away from the beach with lovely bush setting. Big carpark and plenty of outdoor seating plus great lounge area inside. Character sort of place with good selection of good to cater for all tastes. Nice and relaxing place to go to after the beach warm up.

A very successful cafe at a famed locality. Lovely outdoor garden tables in native bush. Food is freshly prepared with a good range. Service can be a bit slow when crowded! Good coffee and really good muffins.

I've eaten here a few times now as it's one of the closest cafes near our house. On the plus side: it's a funky little cafe with a a great outdoor area - perfect for those sunny days when you want to sit outside, with big umbrellas to keep you sheltered from the sun's scorching rays. They also have free wifi. On the minus side: the food has never quite lived up to expectations (although I have yet to eat any of the cabinet food, which I'm told is good, I've only ordered from the menu). For example, the last time we went there, I ordered the nachos and I got a plate full of corn chips with hardly any nacho topping, so after a few mouthfuls I was left with a plate of dry corn chips. Not ideal. Overall, Hot Waves Cafe is okay, but there is room for improvement.

Well done Mary Channings . Your place is superb. You serve nice food and it is a great place to just sit and relax. We highly recommend this eating hole. We were staying with our brother and sister in laws at the Top Ten camp site nearby for a few days. Bone my brother in law bikes it from Auckland quite a few times in the year and we can see why now. Well worth a visit
