HEMA has many stores within Amsterdam in which you can find everyday items for the house kitchen bath. They have got a takeout food section which offers cheap snacks , still delicious.

Hema has always been a great place to shop and have a great variety of items and you can get coffee and a nice cake for cheap we thought until by accident we tried to pay with our credit card and instead of the cashier saying that they didn't accept credit, she took the charge and it cost us $38 for 3 cakes and 3 coffees because the store put it through as a cash charge on our credit card. This purchase should have been the equivalent of about $18. Beware and be very careful in stores in the Netherlands. You're lulled into thinking everyone speaks english but it's not 100% and they do everything via debit not credit. So be very careful and ask first before offering your credit card.

Odd mix of household items displayed in a bright & airy two floored place. Additionally - and the real reason many Dutch choose to come here - is the ridiculously cheap coffee, snacks and sandwiches that they serve on the first floor.

Hema department stores are a great place to buy inexpensive items for the home and, strangely enough, to get freshly made delicious sandwiches. Their Filet Americain sandwich, which is similar to steak tartare (and nothing American about it) are absolutely delicious, served on fresh crusty baguette. We kept going back for more whenever we saw a Hema store during our recent trip.

Visited this place mostly due to the curiosity of the name which is a common name in Sri-Lanka. It has everything one needs.A lovely place. Took a photo of the name board to share with friends in Sri-Lanka.

It's a big department store. You can find small branches and big ones where you can find everything with a descent prices. I love their face lotion "look at the mirror and guess my name" nice and cheap

Very tasty and crunchy smoked sausage. It's a supermarket so you can see a long queue for the sausage. They also sell other pastries which is good too.

Well, i wasn't buy anything in Hema yet except the rookworst (smoked sausage) since i don't live permanently in the country. The rookworst were taste really good for me. I took it with including the bread, made it looks like a hotdog 😀 combine with mustard. I bought it in Schiphol Plaza anyway. Enjoy!!!

When I go visit family abroad, I always buy very Dutch items at Hema. Always "stroopwafels", licorice. And this store is also great to have a quick lunch too.

It's not quite big but it has a little bit of everything, from toothpaste to curtains! Imagine a small Target but even better! I loved!!

One of the bargain tips we've picked up during our Amsterdam research is probably the most economical breakfast in town - at the department store Hema it's possible to buy a baguette with an omelette and bacon, with a croissant and jam and a coffee and OJ for only €2.25 each. Just a coffee can set you back €2.50 - so huge bargain. Seemed like a cracking idea for our first morning in town and we'll definitely be heading back.

..most people seem to be drawn here for the very cheap food. We had coffee and an omelette (with bacon) at a cost of just 1.5 euro. The cakes did look very nice too. Even have some larger ones for take-out.

These stores are dotted all over Amsterdam and I went in a couple, they are usually pretty similar in layout and what they stock. I especially liked the cute stationery and kitchenware. It also proved useful when I needed some superglue to stick the heel back on my boot, and for a couple of bits and pieces for a dinner in my hotel room. It is very affordable and a nice place to get useful and unique souvenirs.

Great for getting little arts & crafts bits and bobs, especially for children. Great value for money, came here several times during our stay.

Yes!! This place was my bread, jam & peanut butter! I always like to get souvenirs that are usable for everyday life. Like some nice clothes or yummy foods, etc. This place had everything I needed and more. I bought my son some super cute pants and shirts for only 12 euro. He still wears them and they're adorable. I also found some great candies and nail polishes to take home to my friends and family. Definitely stop here before you head home!
