Followed the advice from an older guidebook... how restaurants can change in a few years. From an appartenly hidden gem to a disaster. Service was good, food was the worst I have seen.

We went on the recommendation of our on-line map guide as the Internet was supper slow and we couldn't access our usual review sites (TA being one of them!). It was also close to our apartment, we were jet lagged and starving. We were disappointed. The emptiness of the place should've clued us in, but we were eating at 5:30, very early by European standards. Our servers were definitely not Italian-born and the food tasted as much. The bruschetta was tasty. The pasta blah. Prices inflated due to location near St. Mark's Square.

We went there based on the recommendations in Lonely Planet... What we thought to be a nice wine bar with italian tapas seemed to be a non-italian run place with bad wine, horrendous food, pictures of the food (which are absolutely not appealing), a dirty kitchen... The staff was friendly but that couldn't make us stay... We only ordered some appitizers, but even that was to much...

We wanted somewhere close to our accomodation to have dinner as we had a very long day. Stumbled across this place and thought we'd give it a go as the menu board had a large range of food options. The food was average at best (I could make better pizza at home and I'm not even Italian) and over priced. Do not go here unless you are desperate.

Of course we had avoided consuming anything within 10minutes of San Marco for all of the obvious reasons. Circumstances required a bit of food in the area and so we chose this based on a Lonely Planet write up hoping it would at least be serviceable. Hilariously overpriced prosecco was drinkable. Food was inedible. We were served rotten cheese (and not in the good way!) and boiled unseasoned peas and carrots as a vegetable antipasti. Waiter didn't care we couldn't eat the food and charged in full. Shouldn't have bothered, went hungry anyway. AVOID!

This place was not good at all. We asked for a glass of the house red, and the wine they served had gone bad. You a better off going across the street to the little corner bar.

We should have known better in this city of tourist traps, but Cavatappi has just taken the cake for the biggest rip-off we have experienced in a long, long time. Do NOT go here for an aperitif. You will pay almost double for the same drink as you can buy at the two or three bars just next door. The excuse from the waiter was that this was a restaurant not a bar. But same drink (aperol) and inside in a dingy two bit room? I don't think so. But it was my fault. I should have asked the price like some cheapskate punter before going in...not in my nature because I am not a cheapskate...just a very pissed off tourist who took an outwardly pleasant enquiry if we'd like to have a drink at face value only to find later that it was anything but good faith. The warning bells sounded actually a few moments before we'd finished our drinks...a larger group, sitting outside were protesting their bill for drinks only too...but to no avail. I paid him after telling him how disceptive he was. It's beneath my dignity to argue with scoundrels. I hope this bar is the first one in Venice to sink.

We had seen good reviews in Lonely Planet so headed here after a busy morning.....very disappointing! Probably the worst meal we have had in Venice. Avoid.

Unpretentious restaurant that serves excellent local food with a menu of the day offering very good value and a good choice. Friendly service, good wine and overall a very pleasant experience.

We had a good meal here. There was a cover charge of 3 euros per person, if I remember correctly. Something to watch for in Venice.

We'd planned on visiting here after it was recommended in our Lonely Planet guide. Having got outside it would typically have been somewhere we'd have ignored, very quiet, menu with pictures on outside, a bloke stood outside trying to drum up business. We did go in, and we're very pleasantly surprised when the food came out. In particular the clams for starter were excellent, and the monkfish tail for main was also very good. All I can say is don't judge a book by its cover, or all the negative trip advisor ratings.

This restaurant apparently changed ownership a couple of years ago. Food was decent, service was rude at times and inaccurate (out of 8 people, 1 meal and 1 order of bruschetta were missing, the cheese was served with rather than after the meal, and ordering dessert was made to seem such an inconvenience that we finally decided to not order any at all). The guy in charge did finally apologize, saying that they had to send to their sister restaurant for the desserts and it was late, but still . . .

Spent a few hours here people watching and drinking wine. Loved the location and it's free wifi and nice wine! Go here for a bit of sitting and chilling!

We stopped here after a whirlwind morning at St. Marks square. It's not the place to go if you are in a hurry...... But when the food did come, it was excellent. Best bruschetta we have ever had. We also had the Penne Bolognese and the Fettucini Alfredo with shrimp - both extremely good. They are in no hurry to serve quickly, but the people watching makes it worth it. Eat outside.

We searched for this place based on reviews we had seen and were shocked at the lousy meal and service that we received, having expected some nice artisanal cheeses and a great wine. I love risotto, and I enjoyed some wonderful risotto dishes in Venice. Unfortunately the seafood risotto that we ordered at Cavatappi was probably the worst risotto I've ever eaten. The richness that I expect in a risotto dish was missing, and there was very little seafood in the seafood dish. We also always happily ordered the house wine at the restaurants in Venice, but the house red wine at Cavatappi was almost vinegar. We never were asked how we liked our food or drink. When my wife complained about the service, as we were paying the tab, the waiter told us "If the service was bad, then it was your fault." Those are the exact words the waiter said to us. I was shocked speechless. A disgusting experience overall.

We decided to look this restaurant up from a write up in the Lonely Planet. It has definitely changed hands. We ordered the seafood risotto and it was mainly overcooked rice with a large langostino placed in the middle of the dish with no seafood to speak of. When the waiter came to collect the plate and saw my food was not eaten, he asked if I was not hungry. I said it was terrible and he was silent. A good waiter would have asked if I would like to get something else. He did not say another word.

After a hot and tiring day wearing our feet out exploring the lots of little streets which all looked alike in Venice, we discovered this restaurant around the corner from our hotel. While the other diners were eating outside, we chose the cooler interior. We were not expecting much and were delightfully surprised. The food was the best we had found in Venice, the service was excellent, and the prices were competitive with other restaurants we had patronized. While we have only one more day in Venice, we will go back for tomorrow's dinner.

Good location in a side street of the piazza and friendly staff. However, felt it was overpriced as compared to other places we have been to locally. One beer, one prosecco, one panini and one mini pizza amounting to 33 euros!

There is a variety of different small tasty dishes which are different from the tourist places. Good and cosy atmosphere. Recommend!
