It is a lovely space between the Basilica and the clock tower but much is covered by scaffolding right now.

I had the fortuna to find an open market in this big square that was a forum in the roman period. the palace ducale is here.

Tourists writing here will tell you that this is a great place to shop, eat, and take photographs. I live in Mantua, so my perspective is a bit more jaded. You'll inevitably walk here between the rotonda, clock tower, basiica etc. In my experience the cafes are all tourist traps with overpriced, underwhelming food. Once in a while I'll sit with locals on a nice day and have a drink. That's about it. The shops are also overpriced and not worth the effort -- in my opinion. I will say that it looks nice from above -- from the clock tower for example.

Our hotel was next to the Piazza. I enjoyed the sunrise over the Piazza in the morning and the moon rise at night. The water fountain in the middle is great to refill your water as you walk around. This is truly picturesque and THE place for an Aperol Spritz, olives and chips for happy hour. Just wander around, grab a spot and enjoy the beauty and history around you.

This is a very small but lively square in the center of Mantua. It is directly connected to Piazza Sordello. As opposed to Sordello, it is full of stores and restaurants. On one side are the stores and on the other are the leading restaurants of Mantua. It’s pretty much impossible to visit Mantua without walking through Piazza della Erbe several times.

there are quite a few good shops and cafe / restaurants in the piazza, definitely worth a visit. Particular sights worth visiting here are the rotunda and st anastasia's church.

Listen, probably this is one of the top 5 squares (piazze) in Italy even if not so well known like others. Believe me go there, take photos, enjoy life, keep an aperitivo or seat at the restaurants. There are 4 restaurants under the "portici" of "palazzo della ragione", choose reading on tripadvisors, in fact 2 out of four are a bit a tourist trap in which none from Mantova would enter. A good suggestion could be check where the italians seat and choose. I can't indicate you the best here but it won't be hard for you to choose the best... In the place don't miss the "rotonda di San Lorenzo" a circular romanic Church, it is so ancient, it is one of the rows of Mantova... anyway for sure your guide will indicate you where to go from piazza delle Erbe, i can just add that the place is very secure and quite, it is the "salotto" of Mantovani...

The center of Mantua surrounded by shopping arcades, restaurants, and churches. A great place to hang out with a gelato or sit and eat.

We spent a fair amount of time at the piazza. Our hotel overlooked it. Quite a lovely spot to eat, relax, and people watch.

I love this piazza! In my fantasies of Italy, eating in this piazza is near the top of the list. We couldn't get into Cento Rampini, the best restaurant on the piazza, we had dinner at Osteria delle Erbe three times. I love just sitting there and soaking up the scene--the passiegata is one of the best in Italy. It's just dreamy!

We usually have little time for sight seeing especially when we were visiting Italy but we were recommended by our friends that we should pay a visit to the city of Verona and we were very impressed by the area as you can relax and enjoy window shopping in the area and have meals in the restaurants. People are very friendly and you feel safe here

Beautiful space full of urban life. Elegant arcades, lively restaurants, a bit touristy yet still original.

Nice square, not too many tourist, even though it was just before Christmas. I liked the old clock there.

If you visit Mantua you'll visit this square because its the main square. The square is quite interesting but nothing special... its mainly the place to visit to get your bearings for the other attractions and for the restaurants that fill the square :)

The most remarkable feature in this square is the amazing, multi-function clock which we were told was over 500 years old

Mantova is unknown to tourist, and that is really a shame. This square is just superb, you'll just want to come back

Nice quiet central square.I got a feeling that it was a bit boring, but I guess that's due to the high temperatures(40'c).However,the square has a few interesting things like the church and the exit from the park that connects the square with the main palazzo gonzaga, and other interesting architecture. If you visit Mantova be sure to visit it,though it can't be missed even of you tried lol.
