We were looking for a sit down lunch and decided to try this one. The services were a little bit on the rough side but we got our food fairly quickly. The pizza was crispy and tasty. The pastas were outstanding. We were not disappointed. This were one of the better pastas we had in southern Italy.

Having walked up and through the swells of people in Amalfi (couple of cruise ships in) we sat down at this trattoria. The staff were very friendly and when a band started up across the street the chef inside started to sing along. Volare oh oh oh. Our party of 4 ordered pizza all round which were all delicious. The band played on and the chef kept singing. Not a bad voice. The waiter was quite happy to allow me to practice my broken Italian. The bag above the door is filled with oregano, unsure whether this is to protect against evil or il health or whether they are drying their own. A party of nine suddenly appeared but qick as a wink the waiters had moved their motorcycles and laid a large table.

We came here last night and had a great meal. For starters we had bruschetta and fried anchovies with cheese in the middle which were delicious. Mains were pasta ... A veggie one with aubergine, tomato and mozzarella for me and sea food for him. Great draft beer and we were truly replete! Recommended. We'll be back!

Had lunch with a friend. Serviced by two waiters. Came across quite rude when we kindly declined bottled water and had no entrees with our main. Waiter Bought bread to table with no plates- when asking for plates and oil, waiter rolled his eyes. We asked twice and he unfortunately never bought it. Waiters avoided eye contact when walking by. We noticed that every person at the restaurant was getting different service- locals were receiving fine dining, tourists were left until last. Food was average for the pricing. Overall, a very disappointing meal in such a lovely town

Ate here after a bike ride, my parents said the pizza was great so I tried it out. It was the best pizza I've ever had.

Service was not good and food mediocre. Our waiter (guy in his mid 40's) was slow, would wait a long time before checking on us and had poor table side manners. Mostly, he didn't say anything like welcome, thank you, come back, etc - didn't seem to care that we were there. Never brought a salad we ordered, blamed it on the cook and acted like he would do us a favor and remove the salad from the bill. Did not apologize. When we first came in there were only two other tables occupied. When we left there were none. The next day when we walked by there was no one eating there although restaurants across the street were at least half full. Not sure what was going on that we had such a negative experience. We were in Italy 12 days and I think all the other restaurants I have reviewed I gave 4 or 5 stars. Only this restaurant did I rate so low. I do not recommend eating here as there are so many wonderful restaurants in the same area.

A wonderful dining experience with our children. The owners are very friendly and the food is delicious! Our kids are picky eaters and they ate every bite. My wife and I also loved every dish including the appetizer, pasta, second course, and desserts. Highly recommend!!!

A friend told us about this restaurant and how good it is. First was minestrone and calamari - excellent. Especially the minestrone soup. Second was Carbonara- very good, Ravioli - great sauce and pasta and lemon pasta- excellent. Second is veal and it was excellent with roasted potatoes. The whole meal and service as excellent. This will not disappoint. Great family owned and operated establishment.

They have pizza posted up front then say they don't have pizza today. Basically what we went in & sat down for. He said they have a lasagna special of the day 8 layers but when you order it you get 2 layers a tiny sliver big rip off. Rude employees & owner

We chance upon this place while walking the street.... almost at the end of the main town (next to a huge building- bank). We had the calamari and mussels - both very good and delicious, cost about 30euros with water and coffee. Decided to come back again for dinner since the food prices were decent in a very expensive town. Had the calamari (to die for - uses fresh calamari), spaghetti with garlic and pepper oil, baked local fish (lots of fish bones but well cooked).... cost about 50 euros with water and wine. English menu - simple service in a local joint but we enjoyed it. Quiet during the winter lull period and not a major concern with regards to service quality. This is not fine dining. Will dine again.

We had lunch here twice and enjoyed it both times. Spaghetti a la carbonara and Vegetarian Pizza were our meals the first day. Lasagna and eggplant parmesan were our choices the second day. No complaints at all, tasty fare each time. It was fun to watch the kids help what must have been their parents manage the restaurant.

The prices are reasonable for amalfi. E.g. 10euro for pasta dish. We really enjoyed our meal. Rum baba was fab.

Great food recommended to us and did not disappoint. That said service was lacklustre at best maybe even rude. But don't let that put you off

We enjoyed pizza on our first visit to Amalfi. Was looking for a quick place to eat while walking through the Amalfi streets in the evening. This place fit the bill perfectly.

If your a tourist or speak English don't expect good service the waiter was a JERK in a town that depends on tourists, we were discussed in his attuide manners. Food was okay service sucked! Never going back!

In Amalfi it is hard to find a quiet reasonably priced restaurant, but you don't want to come here. The service is terrible. The waiter was rude and unatentive. The food was incredibly overpriced and in poor quality. The pasta was bland, overcooked and full of oil in a bad way. We left hungry and we paid much too much for this meal. NOT RECOMMENDED.

We spent a week in Amalfi and ate in several restaurants recommended to us by our lovely hotel, Villa Lara. Cartari didn't disappoint. We ate here twice as the first time was so good. The cooks are clearly very talented and the food looks and tastes like home cooking. The plates the food was served on were beautiful too. From what I can remember we shared lots of antipasti, including fresh anchovies (delicious), amazing stuffed aubergines with tomato and a seafood and potato dish. We also tried two of the local red wines: Furore and Tramonti, both of which were delicious. Sadly we were too full to order any of the puddings! The service was efficient and laid back despite the restaurant being really full (with people waiting to get in) on our first night, but we liked this and it didn't bother us at all. Delicious bread too, although I thought the coffee was disappointing (think it might have been a good instant?). Overall though, it was a serious restaurant, frequented by locals who clearly like to eat well. If we ever return to Amalfi this will be the first place we go back to!

Amalfi is full of somewhat bogus restaurants boasting 'authentic' this and that. This place was the real deal. Small, slow, careful. The food was absolutely delicious - the best I had on my 5 day trip to Naples and Amalfi. Just a simple dish of tomato salad was lip smackingly good. The spaghetti with olives and clams wonderful too. Please go here and not to the other places in town: you might have to wait a bit but will not be disappointed. I also recommend that you drop by early in the day you want to go or even the day before in person to reserve as they get full. Understandably so.

I have eaten here twice recently with 2 different groups of friends. The location is ok but far away from the sea front, in a small piazza half way up the main street so maybe 400m walk from the sea. The man and wife team who run the place are friendly and honest and the food is very good, fish as well as meat dishes available. A good selection of wines as well as draft Nastro Azzurro beer is available. Starters are excellent and sweets too, some of our party had a local speciality chocolate dish which looked excellent. Great food at very good prices, service could be a bit more efficient but very friendly.****
