Akureyri sits at the bottom of Iceland’s longest fjord, which measures 37 miles from its mouth to the bottom, surrounded by soaring, majestic mountains that are filled with thundering waterfalls, roaring rivers and lush forests. This beautiful town dubbed the “Capital of the North,” is the country’s second largest urban area, after the greater Reykjavik area, though it’s home to just a little over 17,000 inhabitants.

The room we had was really very small! No place to put our luggage ... very small bathroom. I cannot imagine staying there for more than one night. The breakfast was OK... but no more than OK. Far to expensive for what it is...

we spent a night at this place last week. good location, two minutes from the first city centre bars. the hotel does not have a restaurant, which is bummer, if you happen by accident to be part of the group, as we were informed. anyhow, if we forget that we ate after 9PM, the food and service was good, rooms are rather small in size, cannot imagine spending here more than 1 night, as I would start to feel little claustrophobic :) tiny space around the bed, miniature bathroom, but clean and bed pretty comfy.

Very nice hotel within walking distance to the botanical gardens and the town center. Free wifi, and very clean rooms. The breakfast was great complete with a waffle maker and the best service. The rooms are a little small, but very clean and with a lot of character. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly!

Excellent little hotel right on the western shore of the Akureyri fjord and within easy walking distance of the town centre. Reasonable prices and good breakfasts but no restaurant for dinner. However there is a great restaurant in the town centre, just opposite the cathedral (which contains a glass window from Coventry cathedral!), about 5 minutes stroll away called Bautinn which is very popular. This is the perfect place from which to esplore norther Iceland, Godafoss, Dettifoss (most powerful waterfall in Europe) and Asbyrgi (circular cliff formed by a cataclysmic flood) as seen on TV last night!

Had a nice stay, the staff was very friendly and willing to help with anything. The room is charming, and the spirit of the house is calming and inspiring. The room is clean and nice, the bed was very good and the bed sheets were super soft, so it felt like I was sleeping in a cosy cloud.

The old hotel is full of positive forces. Despite the fact the rooms are small, there is not an elevator, the reception is very simple this hotel has a warm atmosphere and you can taste an accurate and enthusiast level of service by the hotel staff. For this reason the previous apparent limitations become less impacting on the final impression, so the small rooms appear functional and very cozy, especially that ones with a beautiful windows looking at the fjord. Despite the dimensions the rooms offer also the private bathroom option. The small bar used also for serving breakfast is so nice and full of character and the breakfast itself is very good. At the end this small traditional hotel is delicious and the atmosphere and general impact. really positive. The prices are also not so high in the Icelandic standard. Yes, this is a very good choice in Akureyri

My wife and I came across this super little hotel whilst visiting the area. Located just off the main road it is easy to get to. It has a pleasant bar offering delicious cocktails. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Akureyri is the second largest city in Iceland (actually a large village). Located on a very picturesque fjord. Hotel is part of a chain. Medium size. Looks like they host meetings. Very large dining area with very good breakfast (included). Check in very professional. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Room overlooked some shops along a street below. Bathroom was nice. All were clean. Beds comfortable. Heating was fine. The selling point is really the location adjacent to a short block of shops many of which have tourist appeal. The one negative to consider is parking. Very inadequate. Parking nearby is limited. We were lucky in that there was a holiday in which public parking was free for a couple of days. Walking distance is the dock with morning departures for whale watching.

Gorgeous little hotel with really friendly, helpful staff. An easy walk to the main street for the all important resturants & retail therapy! The big issue, as mentioned previously , is the rooms are tiny. Fine if you are a solo traveller as you can put your gear on the other bed, but for couples/pairs it is just toooo small. There is also no lift, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs, but the staff do offer to help so that is a definite plus. Breakfast was good.

What a great little hotel. Superb views across the fjord, handy for the centre of Akureyri and the airport. All with the added bonus of an amazing breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. I'll certainly be back

Looks lovely from outside but rooms are small and bathroom was tiny. Rooms looking onto back look onto a wooded escarpment and the windows were filthy! Breakfast was fine; buffet style but plenty to choose from.

As mentioned here in the previous reviews, all the basic amenities Are included and feels clean. However the room is just too, too small and furniture are dated. With the same price or a small Top up, i will suggest the other icelandair hotel akureyi. However there is one really good thing and that is the USB ports beside the bed.

Friendly welcome with a nice room, spacious enough for 1 night, great shower. Excellent location, short walk to shops, bars, restaurants, etc., Breakfast was very good, a good selection of cereals, cheeses, meats, eggs, condiments, bread/toast, waffle maker. Parking spaces outside hotel. All in all great value for money. Thank you!

First of all, the man at reception was so helpful and so friendly! His name is Arthur and we were so thankful to get his advice. He gave us l very recommendations for things to do in the area, as well as when we were further along our road trip. The hotel is super clean, comfortable beds, great shower pressure, breakfast was amazing, and it is close to everything you need. I'm not sure why people were complaining in other reviews. Maybe they were expecting a 5 star hotel. The rooms are small but it's perfect for stopping along your journey through Iceland. We would stay here again. Thanks Arthur!

We stayed only one night but it was handy for the town, parking is near by so you can leave your car and explore the town. Rooms are ok, nothing special but not terrible, lack of space if you have lots of luggage. Nice staff working there, very helpful and the breakfast was good.

Lovely hotel, excellent breakfast buffet, nice staff, great location ... what more is there to say? Rooms lovely with 2 big window facing over the small woods in back. There isn't an elevator though, so keep that in mind if you have trouble lift/ carry or walking up stairs.

We stayed here for one night. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. This was essential as there is no lift so some people required assistance in carrying their cases upstairs. The rooms are warm and comfortable but slightly oddly shaped to get everything in. The desk is in a little corner. There are USB ports, a small flatscreen TV, a fridge & hairdryer but no safe. Breakfast had a good choice. Our room faced onto a steep hillside - I think you can pay more and have a fjord view. Although there is a slope to the front door of this hotel, the reception area, steps down to the bar/breakfast area, lack of lift and odd-shaped rooms would make it difficult for someone in a wheelchair or who uses walking aids. You would need to check whether alternative rooms are available on the ground floor. It is close to the town centre.

I stayed here 2 nights. The room was quite small, I shared with another traveller in my group. The breakfast was very good. Easy walking distance to the town and plenty of places to eat. Much cheaper than Reykjavik and a lovely quiet town.

We stayed three nights. The hotel is very centrally located and one can walk easily to the heart of downtown. Our room on the third floor wasn't huge, but had everything we needed. Nice bathroom and shower, comfortable beds, TV, USB charging ports, refrigerator, and small office nook. The included breakfasts had a good assortment of choices including meats, fruits, waffles, cheeses, juices, breads etc. If given a choice choose a room in the front. The rooms in back look out at a steep hillside.

Receptionist was the friendliest we encountered in our whole two weeks! Breakfast was good, even a waffle maker. Was upgraded for free however the room was oddly shaped and therefore cramped. Fine for a one night stopover. Very much out dated in comparison to the photos, everything seems worn and tired. More attention to detail required in the cleaning especially of the bathroom.
