Akureyri sits at the bottom of Iceland’s longest fjord, which measures 37 miles from its mouth to the bottom, surrounded by soaring, majestic mountains that are filled with thundering waterfalls, roaring rivers and lush forests. This beautiful town dubbed the “Capital of the North,” is the country’s second largest urban area, after the greater Reykjavik area, though it’s home to just a little over 17,000 inhabitants.

Friendly welcome with a nice room, spacious enough for 1 night, great shower. Excellent location, short walk to shops, bars, restaurants, etc., Breakfast was very good, a good selection of cereals, cheeses, meats, eggs, condiments, bread/toast, waffle maker. Parking spaces outside hotel. All in all great value for money. Thank you!

First of all, the man at reception was so helpful and so friendly! His name is Arthur and we were so thankful to get his advice. He gave us l very recommendations for things to do in the area, as well as when we were further along our road trip. The hotel is super clean, comfortable beds, great shower pressure, breakfast was amazing, and it is close to everything you need. I'm not sure why people were complaining in other reviews. Maybe they were expecting a 5 star hotel. The rooms are small but it's perfect for stopping along your journey through Iceland. We would stay here again. Thanks Arthur!

We stayed only one night but it was handy for the town, parking is near by so you can leave your car and explore the town. Rooms are ok, nothing special but not terrible, lack of space if you have lots of luggage. Nice staff working there, very helpful and the breakfast was good.

Lovely hotel, excellent breakfast buffet, nice staff, great location ... what more is there to say? Rooms lovely with 2 big window facing over the small woods in back. There isn't an elevator though, so keep that in mind if you have trouble lift/ carry or walking up stairs.

We stayed here for one night. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. This was essential as there is no lift so some people required assistance in carrying their cases upstairs. The rooms are warm and comfortable but slightly oddly shaped to get everything in. The desk is in a little corner. There are USB ports, a small flatscreen TV, a fridge & hairdryer but no safe. Breakfast had a good choice. Our room faced onto a steep hillside - I think you can pay more and have a fjord view. Although there is a slope to the front door of this hotel, the reception area, steps down to the bar/breakfast area, lack of lift and odd-shaped rooms would make it difficult for someone in a wheelchair or who uses walking aids. You would need to check whether alternative rooms are available on the ground floor. It is close to the town centre.

I stayed here 2 nights. The room was quite small, I shared with another traveller in my group. The breakfast was very good. Easy walking distance to the town and plenty of places to eat. Much cheaper than Reykjavik and a lovely quiet town.

We stayed three nights. The hotel is very centrally located and one can walk easily to the heart of downtown. Our room on the third floor wasn't huge, but had everything we needed. Nice bathroom and shower, comfortable beds, TV, USB charging ports, refrigerator, and small office nook. The included breakfasts had a good assortment of choices including meats, fruits, waffles, cheeses, juices, breads etc. If given a choice choose a room in the front. The rooms in back look out at a steep hillside.

Receptionist was the friendliest we encountered in our whole two weeks! Breakfast was good, even a waffle maker. Was upgraded for free however the room was oddly shaped and therefore cramped. Fine for a one night stopover. Very much out dated in comparison to the photos, everything seems worn and tired. More attention to detail required in the cleaning especially of the bathroom.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Akureyri. The bedroom and bathroom were small but clean and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was buffet Continental, lots of choices and no restrictions on amounts. Location was great; within an easy walk of everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The one thing I would mention is that there is no elevator, though the desk clerk did offer to help get our bags to the third floor. Would definitely return!

Travelling from Reykjavik, Hotel Akureyri was a delight to stay in! The view from the doorstep is lovely and the rooms comfortable. Bathroom may be small for some, but I found it just right. Probably had my best sleep in Iceland at this hotel! A short walk to the Akureyrarkirkja and the central area. We were able to walk from the airport since they have a paved road from there! Staff were friendly and kindly allowed us to keep our luggage there after check-out on our last day. Also enjoyed the breakfast that was tastefully presented - cereals and milk canisters, juices, cut fruit, wholemeal croissants and breads, toppings such as cheese, ham, tomatoes, cucumber, skr and berry jam (?) in little parfait jars.. You can even make your own waffles! A peaceful sleep and fantastic breakfast; what great starts to the days we stayed there! Would definitely recommend and stay here if I travel to Akureyri again!

I was so ill when we stayed here as my dear husband had shared his cold with me! I emailed in the morning on the way there to ask if we could check in early and received an immediate response saying yes, free of charge. Receptionist was lovely, checked us in fast, offered to take our bags up (no lift) but we could do it as only one floor up. Bed was amazing, like falling into a big pool of feathers. Room was nice, whole hotel Morden with quirky twists. The breakfast buffet was also one of the best during the trip. Would definitely recommend!

We recently stayed at this charming hotel during our 3D2N stay in Akureyri and we felt welcomed from the moment we checked in. The hotel room we had was big, spacious and had fjord facing. The bed was comfy and bathroom adequately equipped. The breakfast was delicious with good variety and restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. The staff were all friendly and helpful and you get a sense they will do their best to help their guest. I left my tripod in Akureyri and one of the hotel staff went the extra mile to lend his personal tripod to me and wished I will be able capture northern light images with it. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a nice, comfortable, home welcoming place to stay in during their trip to north Iceland.

Everything was clean, staff was friendly, overall easy and enjoyable experience. There was a pretty good selection for breakfast and the location was walking distance from downtown which made it easy to get to restaurants/bars. Parking could have been improved, I came in winter and the parking lot was not plowed so it was difficult getting in and out.

We stayed in Akureyi in October 2016 on our trip around Iceland. This was our first visit to the Northern part of Iceland. Akureyri is a v.nice little town, with good selection of shops, restaurants, cafe's etc. We stayed at Hotel Akureyri right on the main street. The hotel staff were friendly, rooms basic but all amenities available. Breakfast was included and good value for money. Rooms also had multi-function power sockets, v.useful travelling from UK. Free parking right outside the hotel. We travelled in winter so was nice and quiet, expect the town would be a lot busier in summer months.

We stayed at Hotel Akureyri 2 nights end of Oct 2016, while on a tour of Iceland with Explore. The staff was very helpful, the location is perfect to walk to the downtown area, pool etc...all at close proximity. Small fridge and towels warmers are great to have, beds very comfy. I very much enjoyed the breakfast, you could have waffle made for you on request, excellent whole wheat croissant, homemade jam, altogether excellent little charming place.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in early October 2016. Pros: The hotel was very easy to find and convenient to walk to the charming downtown area. There was plenty of parking available on the street. Since we were only staying one night, we did get the cheapest room, so the view of the hillside right outside of the window was fine. There was a mini-bar refrigerator in the room that we stored our ice pack and a few other items in. The breakfast was included and it had the typical selection of breakfast items. There was a towel warmer in the bathroom, which was great for drying my socks. Cons: The hotel looked nice from the outside, but was in need of some TLC inside. The carpet in the lobby and on the stairs was frayed, and the room had a strange smell, like a stale, moldy smell being masked by deodorizer spray. The room was tiny, with no place to open our bags, except for the beds. There was a small desk and chair, but if anyone sat at it or put anything on the chair, you couldn’t walk by the foot of the bed to get to the bathroom. The twin beds were very soft. Again, the place was fine for one night at the price we paid (99 euro), but I probably wouldn’t stay there again, as I need a more supportive mattress.

We stayed in Hotel Akureyri for 1 night. After we check-out, they charged me extra payment ISK 500 without any notice. I email and asked what was that charge is, they replied to me “The extra payment was made for "Nói Síríus" chocolate from the minibar…”. I replied to them “we did not have this chocolate from the minibar”. They replied “I am sorry about this mistake! I’ve requested to have the money transferred back to you…”. I found out the refund was ISK 450 not ISK 500, I email to them for clarification, but did not get reply anymore.

Very cute and cozy hotel, although the room isn't big, but it didn't bother me. Classical style with VERY comfortable bed and comfort. Very friendly staff and good breakfast also. We did enjoy our stay, will definitely choose it next time visiting Akureyri.
