I have visited Cyprus Avenue quite a few times when acts have come to play for a night out. The first few times were okay, not an excellent venue but a good time was had with my friends. However on a night out in October I couldn't believe the rudeness and absolute ignorance of the horrible bouncers employed by Cyprus Avenue. They threw my friend out for no apparent reason and I went with her as I didn't want to leave her alone and wanted to get to the bottom of why she was thrown out. When asking the bouncers why they threw her out they replied with "no reason" and "I don't have to give you a reason". This is such a dangerous thing to do at such a late hour in cork city. I was complaining to them about what they had done, especially since we had both paid €20 this particular night and were only in the establishment for 40 minutes before this incident happened, and one of the bouncers then pushed me, along with calling me a few names I couldn't possibly mention on this website. They were so unprofessional and disgustingly rude I can honestly say I will never set a foot back in Cyprus Avenue again, nor would I advise any person to waste their money here on a night out. I would give this venue 0/5.

I made the journey from the U.S. to specifically see Hugh Cornwell of the Stranglers do an acoustic set and I was not let down - either by him or the venue. It's easy walking distance from the Jurys Inn Hotel or the Clarion and even easier from the bus station. The venue is small but perfect for acoustic shows. If geography and expense weren't factors, I would most definitely love to see other artists/bands at this venue.

I was here for the Gomez gig last summer and it was one of the best gigs I've been to in a long time. I give Gomez most of the credit for that, of course, but Cyprus Avenue worked well as a small-ish club. So the sound was VERY loud, of course, but there was a good intimacy with the band, who seemed to really enjoy themselves. The bar's at the back, whch is smart, so people aren't traipsing past the stage to get their drinks, and the toliets are upstairs, also sensible. It's the only venue of its type and size in Cork - I think - and a useful one at that.

I went to this venue, to see a gig, during the month of December 2011. The band that I went to see, had performed in Cork many times before, yet this was my worst experience. The most striking aspect is just how cramped and uncomfortable the place is. I really didn't enjoy the fact that we were sitting on high stools trying to see over the heads of so many people standing. For the older people, stools were not even provided and they had to ask for them to be provided. This struck me as uncaring. It should be noted that the audience were kept waiting for quite a while before gaining admittance to the gig. I also thought that there was a very unhygenic feel to the place. I certainly did not feel comfortable placing my coat down on the floor. Another annoying aspect was the number of people who kept coming in and out, with the door banging and distracting from the gig. I wouldn't recommend people to go here unless they are very dedicated fans. It's not a place where you are going to appreciate the surroundings and it takes from the music.

Went to concert by The Unthanks in December 2011. Audience left to wait for an hour in the street on a cold December night before doors were opened. Concert started 1 1/2 hours after advertised time. A few bar stools and tables were available but most had to stand. This was not mentioned on tickets or publicity. No apology or explanation from management. In spite of all this Unthanks were brilliant. lets hope the next time Unthanks come to Cork they book in to a suitable venue.

Went here to see Royseven a couple of weeks ago. First of all was surprised at how small this venue is. Could feel a lot bigger only they've a wall seperating it in half. So if you want to sit down at a table you can't see the stage, you have to watch it on a screen. Seemed a bit ridiculous? Staff are a bit sour looking. Not unfriendly or rude, just they all seemed a bit miserable. Bit of a dark and dingy venue, didn't seem very clean. Wouldn't go here again.
