Location was perfect and very central. Hostel was large, but you never felt overcrowded. It wasn't mad for partying but the bar always had a fairly good atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. My friend and I stayed for 5 nights and we couldn't really fault it! Great place for the money and perfect location.

We stayed in a private room so it's not quite the same experience as most. But it was a great hostel. Perfectly located (it is in a party section, lots of ruin bars). The main area is clean and bright and has a bar. One of the best things is the free communal kitchen with a fridge. So you can cook your own meals and store your own food and don't have to eat out all the time. That's a big plus! Definitely recommend

Very comfortable hostel with great facilities. When I arrived I was given a room, which, when I got up to it, was already fully occupied. The reception staff were very helpful in getting a bed in a different room sorted for me straight away. Cannot fault the staff - they were all very helpful and friendly. This hostel does a great breakfast with loads of options for a good price. The rooms are all modern, clean and spacious with convenient key-card doors and locker doors. Very comfortable beds. Good bar and choice of drinks. The pub crawl that starts from the hostel is good and a great way to meet people.

Can't fault a Wombats hostel! Very clean, staff were lovely, atmosphere and facilities were awesome. Perfect location to easily visit tourist attractions. The walking tour they promote was very average try and find a Sandimans tour.

Having ventured from Krakow on my Busabout Hop-On/Hop-Off tour, I arrived in Budapest later that evening (having stopped briefly in Vienna and Bratislava along the way). Once there, I checked in to the Wombat's City Hostel Budapest for three nights. This hostel is located in the heart of the city, a short distance from the old Jewish Quarter (and within walking distance of the subway, a couple city squares and numerous restaurants). It's in an area that tour guides like to call the dividing line between the more touristy sections of the city and the local zones. The major square it is closest to is Deak Square a few minutes' walk down the street; from there one can connect to the subway, Vorosmarty Square (where most walking tours in the area depart from), as well as the Erszebet (Elisabeth) Square, where an underground club exists. The hostel itself features a large common area equipped with mattresses at the far end, the bar on one side and the breakfast area on the other. Four floors of hostel rooms follow, with each floor being isolated with the standard security features that Wombat's uses. There is also a large staircase connecting the floors; a welcome change to the tiny stairwells I usually find. Each floor has pictures of famous Hungarian people on its walls. I stayed on the top floor in a four-person mixed dorm which was cozy and contained the usual Wombat's amenities (full bathroom, bunks and standard twin beds, lockers accessible by card, etc...). The one main issue I had with the room was that the roof was over our heads and the ceiling was on an angle. Additionally, the one window was on the ceiling and it couldn't be reached. Fortunately the room had adequate air conditioning for the hot days and nights that I was in the city. Wi-Fi is available in all the rooms, but it works a lot better down in the lobby. The breakfast is roughly the same buffet-style as other Wombat's locations and costs roughly the same as well (1,000 HUF/meal = about $5 CAD), though because I had stayed in a Wombat's back in Munich and participated in their stamp program, I managed to get one of my meals free (and I got another one because I found an unused voucher on the floor of a vacated locker). The bar is usually open late on most nights, though times do vary based on weekends/weekdays. I felt that their prices were a little on the expensive side compared to the Wombat's bar back in Munich though; I did manage to get a few free drinks (albeit small sizes) because of the vouchers I got with each stay at one of their properties. The reception area is fairly contained and like most places it is possible to book excursions from there, sometimes at discounted prices such as admission for the Szechenyi and Gellert thermal baths). I did have a bit of a difficult time checking in because an audible alarm had been triggered and the employee handling me initially was just on her first day on the job. Otherwise the check-in staff are courteous and you can usually count on them to point you in the right direction. Overall, I would recommend this hostel for young, solo travelers as its central location, nearby nightlife scene and vibrant culture centres appeal to those in the city for a few days like myself. I'd likely stay in this hostel again the next time I'm in Budapest.

The hostel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful and there was a good atmosphere with the people in the bar area and it's in a fab location for sight seeing and clubs and bars. Best located hostel we've stayed in on our trip! A few pointers - the hostel had this really vile smell of rotting onions when we arrived and into the second day which you could smell in the room as well. No idea what it was and it did smell to disappear but it was a very sweaty smell in the air so I suggest that investing in some plug in air freshners for the rooms and hall way wouldn't go a miss. The shower head in our room was broken and the water pressure was rubbish making it hard to wash your hair properly. If you are wanting to wash clothes here don't have the 'clever' idea of washing your clothes whilst you eat your breakfast. You and 45 other people have had this idea. There's 4 washers and 3 dryers (one dryer out of order). It is literally every man for themselves and a lot of cross words between people other who's turn it was next. I think the hostel should invest in more washers and dryers as there's clearly a demand for it. If you're wanting to wash and dry clothes I would suggest allowing 2 to 3 hours for this if you want to keep coming and going from the laundry room otherwise be willing to camp out and watch your wash until it's done and then put it in the dryer and watch it dry and people will end your and put their clothes in if you're not watching it. Other than that I definitely would stay here again!

Wombats is a poular chain of Hostels known for aesthetically designed hostels in central locations in Munich, Vienna, Budapest etc.! In Budapest the hostel is bang in the centre of the party zone with tons of ruin pubs around! that also means that it is not a SILENT hostel and is buzzing with youngsters till very very late in the night. the hostel facilities are standard and pretty good with a large Common kitchen and decent rooms... some rooms are a little rough on the edges though... its a huge hostel so do not expect any real personal touch in service. I would most definitely be staying at Wombats every time I visit Budapest :)

I stayed at this hostel for three nights at the beginning of August. It is really easy to find if coming straight from the airport. We caught a bus then a train, with the whole journey taking around 40 minutes and costing a couple of quid. Directions given on their website were spot on. When we arrived check in was swift and staff on reception were really polite, helpful and friendly. Our room was on the second floor. It was just my friend and I so we had a twin room which was extremely spacious - i was really surprised! We also had an en suite bathroom. Towels are provided and staff are happy to replace them daily at reception if you go and ask! Air con was on the whole time so coming back in after being out in 40 odd degrees of heat all day was a treat! The location on this hostel couldn't be any more perfect! Smack bang in the centre of town with very easy access to everything you could want to see and near to all the best night life! A 10 minute walk from the famous Szimpla Kert bar, tonnes of food outlets with a variety of choice (Vegans will not have an issue finding something here!). There is a nice little bar downstairs where you can cash in your free drinks voucher. Great modern music as well. We enjoyed a great few hours here. A couple of down sides - although not entirely that bad - there is not much of a chill out space downstairs. It kinda all blends into one in the lobby area. No separate games room or anywhere quiet to relax. Also, not many accessible plug sockets near the seating areas which is a bit annoying when you need to charge your phone and the like. No security at the hostel - so it's kinda open for anyone to just walk in. My friend got chased by a lad, all the way back to our room. Noisy neighbours - and no one monitoring corridor noise, although the rooms are generally really quiet at night and there is no street noise. Luggage store - a great big mess. No private lockers to store anything away in so you have to be quite trusting if you want to just dump your luggage in a room accessible to all and sundry whilst you trot around for the day. By the time we came back to collect our luggage, the room was stacked with mountains of bags that i had to climb over to get to my stuff Apart from this, i do recommend staying here as its cheap, cheerful, has everything you need and is so accessible to everything you could want to see in Budapest.

We stayed at Wombats for 3 nights and the rooms were very spacious and clean, as was the rest of the hostel. The location was convenient and our stay was good value. There were no real problems with the hostel except the shower was just a dribble and we found the atmosphere was pretty dead, but we had just come from another Budapest hostel that was really lively and the staff were much more involved with the guests, and they gladly let us use their showers instead. This hostel would suit if you were looking for a nice quiet stay as it felt like a hotel, but if you're looking for a busier hostel and bar etc then there are better options in the city.

Wombats advertises they are the cleanest hostel. This is not true, the hostel foyer seemed like it was not cleaned properly in months. The laundry had 2 washing machines which worked and 1 dryer making cleaning a 4 hour job with people waiting. The breakfast was quite poor only cereal snd cold meats. Our AC did not work and they compensated us by giving each of us 1 drink card.

This hostel is in walking distance to almost everything. Very central location. Thankfully the room was air-conditioned, large and clean. Staff at reception are more than happy to help with any enquiries and will recommend where the places are to go.

Fantastic location only a few minutes walk from the city centre, Danube & transport. Loads of amazing & cheap food options & bars nearby. Rooms & bathrooms were great with air con a godsend. Laundry & kitchen facilities top notch. Great value for money. Only downsides were the bar/communal area was insanely hot with only one floor fan & wifi was pretty temperamental in the rooms (have found that at most Wombats though). Would happily stay again next time I'm in Budapest.

Stayed in a 4 bed female dorm. Room was spacious and secure lockers within room. Bathroom was clean but shower head was broken. Mattresses were very thin so I often had a sore back. Great location in Budapest. Close to metro. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good atmosphere especially at the bar!

If you are back packing across Europe, and if Budapest is on your travel list, make sure to check out Wombat's hostel before going ahead with any other booking. Pink flags swaying away in the hot summer air of Budapest welcomed us. This hostel at Kiraly Street is quite centrally located. It is also walkable from the Chains Bridge. The hostel is very clean. The team at the reception is very friendly and will assist you with any of your doubts. Breakfast is buffet system. You need to pay in order to avail the breakfast service. There is a bar, a fuse ball table and a pool/snooker table at the hostel, in the lobby area. It is a great place to socialise, network and meet people. There are kiosks for water and other basic edibles. The hostel organises free city walks and paid pub crawls which is fun ! Don't miss out on them ! You can take back great memories and good friendships ! Bon voyage !

The staff was helpful and friendly, but there was hair everywhere in the bathrooms and rooms. The safe in the room was excellent and easy to use. The location is the best part of this hostel, close to absolutely everything needed to explore the city.

This hostel was in a great location. It was clean, had a good vibe, friendly staff and had lots of seating areas. It also had a breakfast buffet and self catered kitchen which was a big plus for me. The only negative was the wifi was terrible, it didn't work anywhere but the reception area and even there it was very slow. Otherwise I would definitely recommend it.
