Only went for the signature menu meal, and it was I have to say, extremely impressive. I have an unusual allergy, but the head chef, Nick Edgar, took this on board and catered for my every need. He even invited me to his kitchen to discuss my allergy, as it was not one he had come across before. Any dishes I could not have, were made with ingredients I could have, with no one being able to spot the difference in taste or quality at all. I asked him what he had used as the substitute, and he provided me with his recipes! How impressive. Everyone needs a unique dining experience like this in their lives at least once, and this is THE place to do it. 199/10 absolute perfection, both on and off the plate!

Overall we had a good stay and the views were fantasic however there were a few bits that were not so good. The room was lovely however it was too hot so didn't sleep well both nights, we should have contacted reception but you can't be bothered in the middle of the night. The personalised welcome letter said we could book the hot tub but then it turns out to be broken so it would be good if they can get that changed. The bill was initially incorrect so if we hadn't checked we would have overpaid. The service was a quite slow to get tea or champagne on the terrace or in the bar. this was on all three occasions! Considering how much money it cost I would have expected these things to be correct.

The food served for our lunch was all one could ever expect for a Michelin starred restaurant. The combination of flavours incorporated into each dish was sublime. However communication is all part of the experience in that to have the constituents of the dish explained to the customers adds an extra interest to the experience. Unfortunately the command of clearly spoken English by many of the waiting staff was poor. Repeated requests to repeat ther explainations resulted in a guessing game. The will to persevere with this challenge wilted during the meal. Such was the communication breakdown that a request for second single drink resulted in a repeat order arriving for the whole table. In such an establishment one would hope the waiting staff could wait till all diners had finished eating before an attempt to commence removing plates from the table. Staff had to be asked to wait till wait till all eaters had finished. Excellent food presented superbly, some scope for improvements in the art of food service.

I have had many afternoon teas in and around the Lake District and this is by far the best. The food was fantastic, the staff were attentive without being overbearing and the setting is simply beautiful. The food was the perfect mix of sweet and savoury goodies and the range of teas available is excellent. It is going to be hard to beat!

This hotel has been thoroughly refurbished. The bedrooms a re comfortable and offer great views over the lake. From the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly and ensured that stay was pleasant and memorable, The tasting menu and Wine Flight was of a high standard, the presentation of the food, flavours and entire experience exceptional. The wines were well selected and accompanied the food very well indeed. It was a pity we only booked one night but we will aim to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing 4 night db&b stay in the Coniston junior suite at this fabulous hotel, the views of Windermere and the surrounding hills are breath taking from the restaurant and terrace with service to match. We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and this sentiment continued throughout our stay. The room and hotel cleanliness is excellent and is everything you'd expect from such an elite establishment. As we were on an extended stay the menu was tailored to our needs, with it reduced to three courses plus the option to select a main course which was not on either of the 7 or 10 course menus. The dining experience is a must no matter how long your stay, attention to detail and the description of each course given by the waiters was excellent and wine pairings perfect. A heavenly retreat in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Having been at The Samling in May this year when we experienced a fabulous time, we returned with visiting Swiss friends. From the phone call 2 days earlier checking if we had any special dietary requirements, to the moment we left it was, once again, 1st class. The staff are welcoming yet highly professional, the hotel itself beautifully styled and equipped , and the service and food exceptional, nothing is too much trouble - all topped off with the best view around. Our Swiss friends have very high standards and were blown away! Can't wait until our next visit!

The 8 of us visited The Samling on the 25th August for the seasonal menu. Each course was absolutely sublime, 2 of our party were pescatarian, 1 that is lactose intolerant and 1 not eating fish but all was accommodated for with changes to the menu. The photos document our meal Starting with canapés in the lounge Chefs appetiser of sorbet Veal Salmon - Goosebury - Elderflower Scallops Pea risotto Foir grois Chicken - artichoke - truffle Duck - cherry Halibut - mint cous cous - tomato Pre dessert of a curried rice pudding Pistachio ice cream dipped in chocolate Lastly jelly, chocolate, Jamaican cake with coffee in the lounge again Even with small looking portion sizes they were certainly filling and well worth the price. Very glad to have been and will definitely be returning!

Our wedding anniversary treat. Such a beautiful setting. Fantastic attention to detail. We had a glass of fizz and appetizers on the terrace at sunset before settling down to the most amazing 10 course meal. Our table in the window corner looked out over the lake and as the sun set we watched deer and rabbits on the knoll. The food was incredible. Every course was an exercise in theatre and precision. The service perfectly attentive but not overbearing. The wine and port, the perfect accompaniments. Highly highly recommended

Just a short review to say that this is a wonderful experience. A sharp efficient place where the modern decor and attention to detail in the surroundings is matched by a beautifully constructed dining experience. We had lunch and chose the taster menu (possibly the only choice) which proved a triumph of culinary art. The service was very warm and friendly and the menu descriptions clear and informative without the pretensions that can so easily sneak in to such an exchange. We ate quite late at 14.00 hrs but there was not hint of rushing us through and left around 16.30. The view is spectacular and weather allowing there is a large open patio area , we experienced an RAF flypast but I don't think my wife believed that I had arranged it for her! Is it worth the entrance fee, that depends on you but expect to pay around £250 for two with a bottle of wine and a G&T each.

Took some friends here for an evening dinner. We all had the full 10 course tasting menu, which was spectacular. The service was very good, however perhaps not as good as the last time when we went but that's just me being picky. The menu had changed from when I visited a couple of months ago and was still fantastic. A good selection of fish, meat and wonderful flavours. We had some excellent wine and finessed with some after dinner cocktails. At nearly £200 a head, with our drinks, it's not a cheap night out but we had a really good time. We didnt realise until we left that we were there for over 5 hours - as it seemed like half that...the sign of a good night.. The new restaurant is very modern with super views, we noticed the chefs table in the restaurant and we want to go back for that experience...

We received a gift voucher for dinner for two at the Hotel. I would describe our visits as a fabulous experience. The dining room looked out over Lake Windermere. The food was exquisite. We chose to dine from the Signature Menu, it was wonderful. Every course was described in detail and lived up to its description. The ambiance and attention to detail was second to none. I can really recommend dining here

We booked to stay and have the taster menu, my husband also opting for the wine flight - from the arrival at the hotel to the point of departure it was a pleasure except for two minor points it was very warm in the room, which was beautifully decorated and the bed so comfortable that I forgave them and slept on the top of the bed. The other minor point was at the beginning of the evening they seemed to forget our drinks and left us sitting waiting for the best part of 30 minutes so we ended up chasing them. That said, once we actually moved into the restaurant, everything went like clockwork and the food was to die for - in this tasting menu there was no red meat at all - keeping it light and summery. Fantastic flavours, oysters, scallops, chicken, so beautifully presented, like theatre on a plate and to top it off, because the restaurant is glass panelled the views of the lake were amazing we also saw a deer walking over the ridge in the setting sun - magical

As soon as I stepped into reception I knew I was going to love this hotel . My new favourite place in the lakes. We stayed with our good friends from Holland in the Blea tarn suite which has adjoining rooms, everything was perfect, the attention to detail is exceptional. Omg the shower is fantastic, also a roll top bath. Carpets are just beautiful, but the colour worries me. We were looked after so well by all the staff, all very very pleasant, but 1 stood out for me, his name is Shashi, he looked after us for 2 days, he is very very attentive and nothing was to much trouble. We had the 10 course signature menu, which was fantastic, bigger portions than any other taster menu I have had. Every course explained, and no course disappointed. The 2nd night the chef cooked us something that isn't on the menu yet as we didn't want another taster menu and it was delightful. If your going when he does the new menu your also in for a real treat. I am sorry to be leaving but I'm so looking forward to returning x x x

The recently refurbishment and new restaurant exceeded our expectations. The 7 course lunch was fabulous and worthy of it's Michelin star, the attention to detail made the afternoon a real treat. The staff were welcoming and attentive and we will definitely return.

The room was superb with views over Lake Windemere. Set in sixty plus acres of quiet scenery this is a place for indulging the senses. Two menus are available and both are tasting menus. Both are excellent in their content and presentation. We chose the wine pearings with each course and each wine was explained by the sommelier. The staff were informative and professional. Will go there again.

My partner booked this as a surprise birthday present through Secret Escapes. We stayed two nights. The food was superb - I have never tasted better. If I had a complaint it would be that the menu didn't change and we either had to have the same 10 course tasting menu on the second night as we had on the first, or go for the 8 course meal which we didn't particularly fancy. I don't see anyone wanting to stay for longer than two nights on a DBB basis if the menu doesn't change during the stay. Or perhaps offer a third choice. It was however stunning. On a purely personal note, the restaurant lacked ambience I feel. I do however have a few comments which I wouldn't expect to be making about such a hotel: 1.We stayed in Buttermere, which is on the ground floor, with views of the lake. Both mornings we drew the curtains to find a man doing building works outside our bedroom. He walked to and fro several time and we had to close the curtains. He could have done the work (relaying a patio or similar) at any time during the day. 2. The fan in the bathroom didn't work. We reported this but no one did anything about it, Not major but annoying. 3. The sound on the TV didn't work (no one showed us how to use the three remotes) and when we called reception they told us to unplug the sky box. First world problem I know! Maybe they could have sent someone to sort it for us, We also had to leave the wardrobe door open to use the sky box (it was in the wardrobe) 4. I didn't see anyone who seemed to be in charge. Just a little odd in such a hotel. 5. I wrote most of the above on the "comments" form they asked us to complete, along with my email details and a phone number, and we left the form and told the receptionist about the builder when we left - she merely said "oh" or something along those lines. I would have expected someone to contact me about my comments and I really don't like to put negative reviews on tripadvisor but surely there is someone who is responsible for customer services who could might have contacted me to apologise about the poor builder who had to put up with the sight of my naked body both mornings!!

My wife and I returned to The Samling on the 27th July, for my her birthday, an overnight stay in a junior suite and enjoy the 10 course signature evening meal. It's two years since we first visited and since then a major re-fit and new restaurant have been completed. We had booked the hot tub but unfortunately it was out of action, the hotel kindly upgraded us to a suite for the inconvenience. Coincidentally it was the same room Blea Tarn, as our last visit, now upgraded to a suite And a significant improvement with new access and new walk in shower. The decor is all light grey - the cleaning bill must be massive. All staff are superb and the quality of the food exceptional. We chose to enjoy breakfast served in our lovely suit with views over the lake and it was excellent. Our only complaint and it is significant, is that it took FOUR hours from start to finish to serve the 10 courses. Far too long and not necessary. If we had known it would have taken this long we would have started much earlier, as to retire at 12 o'clock after 10 courses was not good. A shame because the tastes, appearance and quality was magnificent.
