We stopped here for a midweek dinner. Nothing special about the outside but inside warm and buzzing. Two separate dining area either side of the bar, both with plenty of tables. Service throughout was prompt, friendly and efficient. The place was certainly lively, most tables full but the noise level was really high and we had difficulty conducting conversations between us. The food was well presented. The steak and lamb were very good but a couple of the dishes were disappointing, barely warm and not that tasty, there was a lack of vegetables and no opportunity for side dishes to supplement the mains. The wine list was extensive but short on new world options and pricey.

Exquisite - both service & food. Many good options in the wine list, a bit too much loaded with french ones ? 👍

My partner and I have been to Brawn several times and have been pleased each and every time. They have a different menu every time we visit and we enjoy picking something new. However, one of us always gets a pasta dish as these are absolutely delicious - the pasta is cooked perfectly and the whole dish is always well-balanced and leaves you wanting more! Tonight we had the veal ragú papardelle which was fantastic! I wish I could have licked the plate but my partner makes me promise to only do this at home! Their selection for other mains is varied and we enjoy it but the pasta really makes it worth the trip! We've had dessert several times and have always been very pleased - from panna cotta to tiramisu - these are very well done. It's true that some people have commented that it can get quite noisy but we're not bothered by this. The staff are very friendly and the service is quite good.

Of course all reviews are relative so how to make sense of this restaurant? Well how about comparing it with similar outfits in this general area? The food seemed more consistent than the Typing Room. The service was genuine, warm and lacking pretentiousness, say in comparison with Lyles. Portions were generous and service unhurried, say in comparison with Ellory. Add an impressive wine list, a good view of activity in the kitchen in the rear dining room, and a warm welcome .. and the winner is..

Great food and expensive wine - spoilt by the impossible din - this place is so loud - the music so loud - and general noise levels meant we had to shout to be heard by the waitress - who cupped her ears to hear - our comments about it were met with derision and we were told 'it was buzzy' - crazy!

Oh man, this lunch will forever be in my memory. From tomato that tasted like REAL tomato to peach (yes, plain, good old peach) that actually tasted like one, the ones you remember when you were a child. Main was fantastic, home made bread delicious, veggies/salad for started crisp and tasty. Service is really nice and attentive. This place is compleeeeetely off the beaten track and clearly deserves the detour to enjoy the experience. Not cheap, but hey...

My daughters and I arrived early on the first night of my visit to London. This turned out to be a bit of fortuitous timing since the place would become noisy later in the evening as the place filled up.So if you want to have a bit of a quiet chat, come early. I ordered cod which is not an easy dish to get right as it is a delicate bit of white fish and very mild in taste. But it stood out even more than the sea bass ordered by my daughters. They enjoyed their desserts of Panna Cotta and Tiramisu. I'd particularly commend the tiramisu which can easily be delegated to the 'tired' compartment. Service throughout was attentive and barring the couple with voices capable of calling pigs, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Not cheap but in no way overpriced for what you get. Again, I am speaking about quality rather than quantity..

This lovely place is tucked away off the beaten track and offers a light airy and simple dining space. We started with some salame, salted almonds, and radishes with cods roe to nibble on while we perused the menu. The selection is short but there is something to tempt every palate. I opted for lomo with figs - sweet and juicy, a perfect complement to the meat - followed by what turned out to be one of the best steaks I have ever eaten - a perfect bavette, well-seasoned and caramelised on the outside, rich, rare and juicy in the middle, and complemented by a nice bitter salad with walnuts and blue cheese. Dessert was a perfect quenelle of chocolate mousse - dark and rich and silky, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Perfect. Service was attentive but not intrusive. All in all a delightful lunch!

My husband, daughter and I had a super evening at this restaurant. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. The menu was excellent with a good variety for each course. I had eel with bitter leaves to begin, which was excellent, followed by black pudding and squid. As a Scot, I know my black pudding and this one was first class! My husband had the turbot, which was delicious but he probably could have eaten a slightly bigger portion. We shared two puddings which were just delightful. The olive oil and chocolate was most unusual. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Columbia Road in Bethnal Green is a fiercely independent part of London in this age of conformity. Brawn is thus ideally placed! The menu at Brawn has an interesting selection of "small plates" with a Mediterranean bias, but "traditional" ingredients are also to the fore.Delicious Crab Bisque - very creamy but with a real "crabby" taste and Pork Collar (now there's an under-used offering) with chick peas and a tomato consomme were my selections. An amazing wine list with more than 100 bottle, many from bio-dynamic producers. Wines by the glass a little limited though.

I have been a few days ago in this restaurant in the lovely colombia road, the area is really nice, lots of little local shops and on sunday there is the famous flower market, the restaurant overall is nice, great ambient and nice menu, we had to wait a little bit too much for our main dish but the food was not bad, maybe a little bit overprice considering the quantity of food. we tried the tiramisu' and was good. wines list is good.

Not so sure about the taste of natural wine yet... But, as with most other things in life-I am sure it is, or will be at least, 'an aquired' taste.. to me, that is. It sounds wonderful, and like- the only right thing to drink..so I will keep trying. But.. The food however, was simply delishes. Perfect. the only word I can come up with for the moment. Sorry. Atmosphere was great. Staff was warm and wonderful. Will come back again and again when in London.

We live in London so are used to having great food. I really think this place stands out though. While it sounds a little poncey to say it, it really is clear how much effort goes into the food. Enjoyed every bit. I'd add that the service was great too; none of that formulaic 'how is your food' when you've got a face full of your main. Literally no complaints.

This is my third time at Brawns in as many years, and it's good to find a certain consistency of approach and performance. There were some star dishes, namely a duck salad starter and a lamb main. Both had extraordinary depth of flavour, the duck well-matched by acidity in the garnishes, and the lamb served with vividly green and fresh peas and broad beans. A vitello tonnato was also excellent (no capers, but acidity galore there too -maybe too much- coming from curly leaves on top), and so were a tomato salad and plump Morecambe oysters. Desserts seem a bit of an afterthought. A buffalo ricotta with apricots was not as intense as I had hoped. Better was a pannacotta with strawberries. Service was very nice and eager to explain. Prices are right. This is a dependable, modern and interesting restaurant that graces the East London culinary scene.

Have been here several times over the last couple of years. It is a family favourite. It never disappoints. Last night I was meeting my sons for an early dinner and got drenched in a deluge of rain. I had arrived early with one son and although the restaurant did not open till 6pm, they kindly let us sit at our table for drinks at 5.30pm. The staff here are always so professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. The lovely waitress advised us on trying two different bottles of wine and we loved them. The food was outstanding as always. This lovely restaurant is a real gem and we hope to be back soon. It is worth the trip to London from Essex to visit here. Thank you again to the kind staff who let us in early to dry off from the rain.

We had a business dinner at this light airy restaurant, a great place to eat on an early summer's evening. The menu was eclectic, the food well prepared and pleasantly served. I'd definitely go again. I didn't pay but the menu looked quite pricey!

Very busy on a Saturday evening but service was impeccable. Limited menu but our party of four tasted most of it between us and absolutely everything was delicious. My lamb sweetbreads were like crisp clouds in a sea of dark green sauce. Wonderful. Highly recommended.

Ravioli with nettles, pork pie and first class cheese plate all good. Atmosphere good and service attentive. House white wasn't to my taste but there was an extensive list of French wines. Try it

Excellent food and service! The food is prepared in an open kitchen which you can see in the back room. The front room has more of an industrial feel ( white walls, factory type lamps) but in a nice way. The service and the food were excellent. The noise level was OK so that one can have a nice conversation as the tables are not too close one to the other ( for London!) The food was neither slow coming nor rushed and they ran our of some things on the menu by 8.30pm, a good sign that all is fresh. A real nice restaurant.

On a beautiful, crisp spring day we had a wonderful lunch in a lovely white, light-filled industrial space, humanised with flowers and artworks. The menu is apparently straightforward but the impact it delivers is enormous. Raw scallop with celery was incredibly vivid; the turbot with mussels was seafood lushness nailed. I believe the bread is from E5 Bakery - it was amazing, needless to say. The service is excellent - they offered to split the veal ragu for our two young children, who loved it. I have to say, though: the ricotta and nettle ravioli - wow, wow, wow - jaw-droppingly delicious. How can something so 'simple' be so good? I can't stop thinking about this meal. Brilliant.
