Our waitress was very nice. The place itself is pretty charming. On the other hand we are not sure the hygiene is as its best.

My wife, grandson, two children and four friends were treated very rudely at this pseudo hospitality establishment. The sharing platter we received was mostly fried bits with stale crisps and cost £14.00. We were not served our drinks. I telephoned the night before to make a reservation and was told no reservations accepted. I was not told that if you bring a child EVERYONE has to order a full meal to sit in the restaurant. I telephoned the parent company Michell and Butler 7 times to complain, request an apology and refund and after one week, NO Response! I shall not patronize them or any of their establishments ever again.

Good location. Full of character. Not big. Busy but relaxed. Very. nice meal. Don't be in a hurry.. Value for money for sure. Touristy, yes - but feels like it could be your local as well.

Only came in here for drinks but it was very very busy so no seats, the food looked and smelled really nice, Think it would be best to book a table if you are going to eat.

On our last sunny, beautiful day in Edinburgh, and we popped into the always busy Greyfriars Bobby Pub, which is just a block or so from the hotel we stayed at. We got cocktails from the cute bar and enjoyed it as we waited with our friends for a table. Thanks to an impressively competent and efficient hostess/waitress, we didn't have to wait too long. We loved our table by one of the front windows, cozy for conversation and with a perfect view out to the street to watch the foot traffic coming and going and stopping to rub the nose of the Greyfriars Bobby statue out in front for good luck! We enjoyed our delicious comfort foods of macaroni and cheese, meat pie and fish and chips. What a lovely way to wrap up our trip to Edinburgh. Don't forget to take a walk around the Kirkyard Cemetary grounds behind the pub to see the beautifully rustic grave stones and the site where the little dog, Greyfriars Bobby, allegedly guarded his master's grave devotedly for 14 years!

We had a terrific dinner and dessert here while in Edinburgh. The bar staff, hostess and our waitress were on top of their game, the food was wonderful, and the ambiance was great as well. We started with a scotch egg, and both had the fish and chips, and finished with the cranachan, and loved it all. We'll definitely be back!

We had been looking forward to eating here then we checked out the menu. It's the SAME menu as half the restaurants in Edinburgh. It's owned by the same family that runs a ton other so we didn't go in. The Nicholsons really need to start changing up their menus you can only eat the same menu so many times very disappointed.

Lovely visit to Greyfriars Bobby Bar. Best Fish and Chips I've had in a long time. We were well taken care of by Hannah, very professional and courteous, Fab Food.

It's located in a corner where everything looks like a castle. Order the meat pie for an authentic experience and fall in love with Scotland.

I visited there with my friends and the wait was not long at all. The staff came to greet us and asked us to wait while they were clearing the table. The waitress led us to the table and recommended the local menu since she knew we are tourists. Very delicious meal and authentic. We enjoyed the view outside too. Great cafe!!!

Have been to Edinburgh before and on this visit decided to go into Greyfriars Bobby for a drink. When we went in and ordered drinks we also had a look at the menu and the food being served and decided to eat there as well. The pub serves good food has nice beer and the service was very friendly and efficient. We visited again for a drink and meal on our last night and again the service and food was excellent. Will visit there again when visiting Edinburgh.

We got dropped off prior to the Tattoo, so headed in for a couple of drinks and dinner. It is small, but we only had about a 10 minute wait for a table. The entire restaurant is run by a single lady, who did an exceptional job. OMG! she worked hard from cleaning tables, seating customers, serving drinks/food and taking orders. Regardless, she still had time to chat and always with a smile. Good selection of beers, both draught and bottled. Really enjoyed the plum porter. Meals were served fairly quickly and served piping hot. I had the mixed grill, with the steak cooked a perfect medium rare. All meats were tender and tasty. All in all a great meal and start to our evening at the tattoo.

My wife and I visited Scotland at the end of June, and stayed in Edinburgh. We loved every minute of our stay, but we especially loved Greyfriars Bobby. We kept coming back! The food was wonderful, and Louise always made us feel right at home. When we come back again to Edinburgh, we will make a bee line back to our favorite pub and restaurant Greyfriars Bobby.

Seriously the whole restaurant can hear this woman barking instructions at the staff. It's constant and created a seriously bad atmosphere. The fish cakes must have microns of fish in them. The excuses ranged from tradition to be don't make them ourselves. Seriously steer clear.

Easily found next to the Greyfriars Bobby memorial. This is a good pub for a drink and a meal. Partly because of its location it can get very busy - but the possible wait is worth it with good food, good menu choices and good drink.

I have travelled to Edinburgh many times and always wanted to visit here, just I guess coz of the legend. Very disappointed in both the food and the service.

I grew up on Disney. Greyfriar's Bobby was a tearjerker from my youth and I promised myself I would visit his memorial if I got to Edinburgh. Immediately after checking into our hotel, my husband and I strolled up to Greyfriar's Kirkyard, a peaceful oasis away from the crowds attending both the Fringe Festival and the Royal Tattoo. Outside the gates, there is a statue of Bobby and legend has it that it is good luck to rub his nose. Of course, that was a must. After working up an appetite, we walked into the pub of the same name. It was super busy but we only had to wait about ten minutes for a table. I had a yummy Scottish Salmon and my husband had haggis sausage. We were delighted with both meals and then shared a dessert and a wee dram. We had a great chat with our waitress and it made the meal even more enjoyable. We were ready for a walk and wandered up to The Royal Mile only minutes away, proving it is a good choice when you are visiting that part of the city.

We really like the look of the outside and inside of this place. We didn't see any of the issues the one and two star reviews stated except for the service being slow. Not during the meal but just to get that initial contact. After that, all was fine so I can see why some of the "slow service" complaints are warranted. The food was rally good and Hayley was a peach! We had a coke, Titan plum beer chicken club sandwich and the mash and haggis...my new favorite. Bill came to 24.15 pounds so it is reasonably priced and the service from Hayley was great. Maybe they just have trouble with assigning tables to a waitress or something. I must say U.K. ...20% VAT is insane. The bill goes from 20 to almost 30 pounds when you throw that VAT and tip in there. I think for that kind of tax, your roads in Scotland should be better, lol!

Staff just hang out behind the bar and don't look after the customers. Tables are filthy!! .... absolutely covered with used glasses and bottles and completely covered with crusty, dried, soiled and spilled drinks. Asked the staff to help clear and clean and they said they were too busy... but they weren't. Only 1-2 out of 5 to 6 or so actually working. On our table alone we had 40 glasses and bottles to clear - a table for 4 - so 3 of us had to do 2 trips each to get these glasses and bottles to the bar so that we had space for our drinks. Don't waste your time or money. There are plenty of other bars that are far better!! These guys are just resting on their laurels. Jolly Judge, for example, is nearby and far better! As are many others...
