I popped in here with some friends and a woman served me who was so rude it shocked me.. she was also incredibly rude to the other staff there. Turns out she is actually the manager, I spoke to one of the other members of staff and said I would like to make a complaint to the manager and they told me it was her...!!!! Will never go here again and couldn’t recommend the place to my worst enemy. What a truly unpleasant woman, shouldn’t be in front of the public.

I entered the White Bear with high hopes of a splendid burger after seeing their Wednesday deal. Boy was I disappointed by the service. After waiting 30 minutes - I was informed that my order had in fact not gone through. Another 15 minutes went by and I had yet to receive my burger. To make things worse, half of the tables order came before the other. All in all - the wait was too long. The burger was pretty good though.

Lovely, friendly, welcoming bar. Local box cider was delicious (I had the elderflower cider) The decor and the music was good, comfortable and not pretentious. Nice mix of customers and the food looked good.

I recently had my 40th Birthday party at the White Bear and it was the perfect night! The staff are just great and so friendly. I received phone calls from the manager to ensure everything was in order before the night and they moved furniture around for me so it was all set up when I got there to decorate. It's a great size venue with plenty of space for people to sit and for people to dance and it has such a great atmosphere. Many of my friends on the night were ready to sign up for their own party there. And the whole thing is for free! I would wholeheartedly recommend this venue and would like to thank all the staff for being so lovely and for all their hardwork on the night!

We had a party for 40 people for my daughter's 21st birthday here - it was fantastic and they looked after us so well - we had our own private area in the pub with access to the courtyard which is great - they were incredibly accommodating both before and on the night - allowed us to bring cake along and move the furniture around - it was really good value too - it happened to be a Wednesday when they have £5 burger deal! Thank you to Jamie and all the staff - you made it really easy for us - we loved it.

This place hosted my 30th birthday party and it couldn't have gone better. The staff were extremely accommodating and the drinks selection was perfect for the range of tastes people had. One of the best birthdays I've had.

For me, the White Bear is everything a pub should be, and does it all brilliantly. It’s a real community pub, the staff are friendly and all great hosts. The pub is very well managed, with a great selection of beers, lagers and a stand out range of gins. The food is delicious, and the décor is really nice. I particularly like that there are so many different areas depending on what you’re up to: cosy bar, big tables for large groups, lovely outside courtyard for those rare summer days, pool table and loungey back room. There’s also the Theatre upstairs. And it’s great as a party venue, from brilliant New Years eve party’s to private hire downstairs or the smaller upstairs – a really versatile space which the staff expertly adapt to any given occasion. I once found a unicorn in one of the upstairs rooms one New Years eve. Spectacular! I can’t recommend The White Bear strongly enough. Just go there.

I come here regularly for lunch or evening drinks. It has a great selection of pints, great staff and a great atmosphere. I also had my 21st birthday party here - free of charge - and it was a total success. Probably my favourite pub in Bristol - couldn't recommend it more highly!

I visit this pub regularly as it's a convenient place to meet friends for lunch. The staff are always friendly and the food is good and reasonably priced. I have also been for drinks after work and there usually seems to be a good mix of students and University staff. With a chilled out friendly atmosphere, along with a 10% discount for Uni staff and students, what's not to like!

Service is always lovely, great selection of beers, cider and lagers. Fantastic £5 burger on a Wednesday, definitely worth recommending!

This pub was one of the stops during night pubs walk. It is average pub with lots of beers. It was attracted to me because of the big white bear on the pub's outside wall.

We called in for a drink or two and a meal with no preconceptions. The service was excellent, and when I ordered food then got chatting and forgot to take my change, the guy behind the bar came and found me! Top rate and nice touch! The food was tasty and hit the spot nicely. Not an extensive menu but more than enough and we highly recommend it. Well worth a visit. Great atmosphere. Thanks guys! x

My daughter had her wedding reception at the White Bear on sat September 17th 2016 and it was absolutely brilliant. The wonderful staff Kelly Jamie (and to my shame I can't remember the other names, I feel really bad as one of the ladies whose name I can't remember was so amazing and helpful) were so kind, accommodating and patient with Bridezilla, Mother of Zilla and Grandmother of Zilla. They supplied everything we asked for and after we left the pub decorated but not completely finished to go to the wedding we returned to find everything completed and looking gorgeous. I am so so grateful for everything they did they catered for gluton free vegan guests, they made a load of grilled toasties and chips for peckish people at 10pm, and they kept smiling all evening. I cant recommend them highly enough, just say that if you have a function there you will be in safe hands, you will have the venue for a wonderful evening, and lovely staff to look after you. Wish I could give them more than 5 stars!

Like the pub over the road that shall not be named, this pub is very popular with the local student population. They leave enough room for us locals though and eves dropping on some of their conversations has brought back many a memory of my own time at Uni. Service is friendly and a good range of beer etc, never tried the food so can't comment. The small courtyard out front is nice on a warm summer evening and they occasionally do a BBQ. All in all, a good local with a mixed friendly crowd.

The White Bear is a nice pub located in the lively St. Michael's Hill street. It has a limited selection of beers, but all of them are good. It usually has a nice atmosphere, crowded by students and staff from the nearby University of Bristol. A nice place to hang out and have a beer, definitely.

I came in for a pit stop whilst my sister was in labour, i was very tired and hungry so was looking forward to some nice food. They had burger meals for £5 but I was undecided so the barman recommended another popular dish as fries smothered in cheese and pulled bbq beef - it sounded deliscious! I went for this one. When it came out it was a small basket of fries with a handful of grated cheese and about 2-3 very small pieces of beef. This cost me £8, I was disappointed as I think just a bowl of fries was £2 I think - so £6 for a sprinkling of cheese and hardly any meat at all. Very overpriced for what it was.

Two or three times now, I've turned up half way through the last hour of dinner service, hoping for one of Bristols best burgers and been told the kitchen was closed. Don't rely on being able to eat here within the advertised serving times after a hard day.

the staff here are great, the food and drinks are good but a bit pricey - considering its location it's not that surprising. Would recommend

Great place to visit if you want to taste some ciders. For £3.50 you can get 3x third pints from a selection of 9 ciders that are available. When we visited there was an amazing mango cider that everyone in our group really enjoyed, we would go back purely for that one cider. Nice pub with seating both inside and out. Don't be put off if you don't see seats when passing as there is more seating at the back of the bar. There is a pool table and there was also live music on the Saturday night we were there.

This is a nice traditional pub with a good layout and plenty of seating area to gather around with friends. The selection of drinks is good and it is particularly nice to see a list of different scrumpies. My only gripe is that some of the on the tap lagers are a bit too pricey.
