You really have to go here because you want a ton of variety in the vegetarian meal space. Plus, for Switzerland it is as cheap as it gets for a meal. They have wine, but quite a limited selection. The atmosphere is basically a cafeteria. You walk in, grab a plate, fill it with whatever you want from the buffet, have it weighed and look for a stool to sit and eat. It is not particularly clean and feels rather rushed but I guess it was the experience of eating in "Europe's Oldest Vegetarian Restaurant" that had us staying.

Wonderful place. Great choice of food than not only tastes but also looks amazing. Excellent service. My vegan friend was really impressed. We will definitely be coming back.

Very extensive menu of vegetarian dishes. We ordered a la carte instead of the buffet. The food was delicious and couldn't believe everything was vegetarian.

I had breakfast at Hiltl today. I've been traveling in Swizerland for almost 2 weeks, eating lots of cheese, bread, and potatoes. Hiltl was a welcome change, with tons of ethnic options, fruits, veggies, casseroles, curries, etc. I loved the jackfruit curry, but everything I had on my plate was good. Grab a plate, fill it up at the buffet, then take your dish to the counter, where staff will weigh it, take your drink order, and your payment. I was traveling solo, and there were lots of other solo diners there, which was nice. Great music playing, nice atmosphere. Love this spot.

Restaurant was really crowded on a weekday at dinner time. The variety of the buffet spread is fantastic. Food and ingredients used are good quality but as with most things in Switzerland, it is rather pricey. Plates are weighed and charged at 4.50 CHF per 100g if dining in or 3.50 CHF if take away. You can take one bread per pax and there is free tap water so make use of these if you are on budget!

Often a very busy place. If you can get a quiet table then ok. Food and service are good. To visit this restaurant is a must when you are in Zuerich.

I'm not a veggie but was very happy to try this long established Zurich institution. In continuous service since 1898 and still in the same family they must be doing something right. Downstairs is a huge self service buffet with over 100 dishes to chose from apparently. Upstairs is waiter service and that's where we opted to sit. Great menu of vegetarian dishes, we chose two Indian style meals and they were really tasty. Good portion sizes with accompanying breads and relishes. The house wine at CHF48 is good value ( for Zurich!) Our lunch for 2 people with wine was CHF100, it isn't cheap but I guess in line with everything else in Zurich.

The oldest vegetarian restaurant in Zurich - it is better than 10/10 ! Friendly though harried staff - 9 people with completely different food habits - it cared to all of us - left me feeling that I could have stayed and eaten my way through everything, though I am not a buffet person usually. A bit expensive, it was however worth every bit. Really really good salads from all over - schnitzel was awesome and I ran out of steam halfway through : ). I did not try the Indian food at all, (though Bharta was on the menu !!) and the desserts were a bit disappointing, but chocolate mousse saved the day. Had to be carried out !

Disastrous experience: after eating an overly priced veggie meal, I went back to the desk to ask for the two free brownies (for Zürich pass holders). At cash register, the inexperienced and rude lady took my phone from my hands to zoom on the discount card to finally tell me this is not valid on smartphone only paper. After several exchanges and arguing that it was valid, I finally got two brownies but felt like a tramp. I will definitely NEVER put a single foot again at Hiltl and will right away eat 300g of red meat to compensate for the unhealthy meal for my nerves.

45 chf/kg for heated food is a bit expensive for my standards. Considering that this is a self service, sorry a luxury self service! Positive: tap water available. Difficult to find a table at peak times. Would return only if joining somebody else who really wants to go there.

Large variety of vegetarian food in the buffet, very tasteful. The decoration and ambience is unique. The service is good, when ordering drinks and paying, considering that the main focus is on the self service buffet. Better to make a reservation if going during rush hours.

We booked a table at this restaurant after being recommended by a friend who lives here in Zurich. The food was excellent and very inspired. And the staff was also very friendly. The next time I visit I'll have to try the buffet. Highly recommended!

U need to go for a nice breakfast/brunch. It's not a recommendation it's simply a must do. U got plenty of choices (all vegetarian/vegan) and the quality is outstanding. No surprise they deliver the food also to Swiss Airlines for their business class passengers.

Food we had was good. Waiter was ok a little too busy and didn't explain options. Service was good but food orders were very very slow !! Don't rush. We were jealous of those who did buffet choice as they were eating while we were waiting. Mixed starters was good not healthy as all fried. Not amazing veggie really. Disappointed.

As the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Europe, it sets the bar high. This food is tasty and filling for vegetarians and omnivores alike. Skip the menu and eat from the food bar. Great wine list!

Wonderful selection, constantly renewed - there is truly something for everyone including our three teenagers. Priced comparative to the area and Switzerland in general, but the only place we saw that offered free cold water (yes!). We would definitely come back!

The brunch is very good there are different types of food but everything is vegan. I like Hiltl also because it's quick and efficient. It is very relaxing .

Hiltl is a very nice discovery in the otherwise impossibly expensive restaurant scene of Zurich. Located in the heart of town, this is a large place which allows flexibility to find a table. We had a combination of veggie type dish and a curry. Both were absolutely excellent. Although our waiter dropped the ball, the head waiter was very attentive and ended up correcting well the service issue. Reasonable choice of wine. We will be back

I went there with my daughter yesterday. We went early so it wasn't busy when we arrived. We enjoyed the food. Before we got the bill we were asked if we were going "all you can eat" or was our food weighed. This was the first we knew this was what they do. It was too late to weigh our food as we had already eaten! We were very surprised when the bill came and it was 144SF. I am still shocked that nothing was said to us when we arrived. It was obvious that we were tourists so wouldn't know this.
