Summer is coming to the streets. Expect free slides, zip lines, food, music, and unbelievable traffic. For three Saturdays throughout the month of August, NYC’s streets become an annual day festival where jay walking is not only allowed but encouraged.
The two most buzz-worthy attractions of Summer Streets can be found the southern most rest stop at Foley Square, where the event’s classic 165-foot city zipline 30 feet above the streets and a new 270-foot slide, for which you must preregister online.
Take a breather at the SoHo rest stop, which features yoga classes, street jazz, and aerobics all day. With no musical performances at the stop, visitors will be privy to a kind of quiet that you don’t ever see in the city’s streets.
The uptown rest stop features a number of activities including a parkour fitness demonstration, bike rental, a craft table, and various performances from local dance troupes, bands, comedy groups, and musicians.
