Minka says: fancy a warm summer's night watching a film under the stars in the former moat of an old castle? If the answer is yes, then check out Sala Montjuic in July and August. It has a great line-up of films, some in Spanish, many in English. Entry is €6 and you can bring a blanket of hire deck chairs (€3), which I recommend unless you can get there early a grab a good spot where everyone else's chairs won't block your view. Just bring a warm jacket or blanket! www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: If you see one piece of Gaudi, then this is it. The park is as beautiful as it is bizarre, and the views of the city are magnificent. Take a picnic up with you, then roll down the hill to Grazia for drinks afterwards. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: This vintage amusement park is perched high on a mountain but well worth the trek. Catch the funicular up there an hour or two before dusk in order to catch one of the most beautiful sunsets you'll ever see! The park itself is very photogenic. Definitely a must-see. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: Gracia may be a little back from the beach but it is one of the most interesting and fun parts of Barcelona. Formerly a hotbed of (Sp)Anarachist activity, it has more of a Dalston vibe these days so Generator's hostel is the perfect place to stay if you need some fun vibes. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: Barcelona is a bit of a skateboarders mecca. Ever since I started visiting the city with my husband he has spent every trip pointing out much of the city is covered in wear marks from grinding steps, rails, monuments, you name it. There are a number of good skate parks too, including the one by our favourite beach, Mar Bella, plus skater bar Nevermind has a bowl in the bar. So basically, if you have a skateboard, bring it with you. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: notorious for being the location where Kylie's 'Slow' music video was shot, this Olympic diving pool has exceptional views across Barcelona and is a great place to spend the day lying in the sun if you aren't a fan of sand. Catch the funicular up from Paral·lel metro station. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: this fabulous hotel chain has added a gorgeous new spot in Eixample. Sumptuous interiors, a rooftop pool and free wifi across the city are three reasons to stay at this very affordable hotel. It's also right near Passeig de Gràcia, so you can naviagate the city easily from this central spot. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: Best beach in Barcelona. Mid-week it is very nude and very gay (yay!), but by the weekend it is like London Fields. But on a beach. With a lot of naked people. There are also a couple of bars on the beach - or you can just bring your own. www.minkaguides.com

Minka says: Alternative gay-bar in El Raval that is pretty low-key but with a very fun crowd. Sunday nights are often their biggest party here but worth checking out any evening. www.minkaguides.com

(GF) (VG) Minka says: if you fancy a little Italian post-beach, just shout Mammamia! This little spot in Poblenou has a very family-run feel and the large menu has something for everyone (including GF pasta). Open 7 days for lunch and dinner - plus you can grab an aperitif from nearby Balius and make a night of it! www.minkaguides.com

(VG) Minka says: you've got the perfect trifecta right there in the title: brunch, cake and beach. This is a pretty bougie chain of Barcelona brunch spots, but if you're going to try and of the 'Brunch and Cake' family, go for this one. The interiors reflect the seaside location, the food reflects the wholesome meets comfort food aspirations, so you have breakfast salads next to pancakes. Open 7 days from 9am-9pm. www.minkaguides.com
