New York City is full of new restaurants (we understand the current rate of opening to be about seven per hour), but the East Village in particular is a hotbed of activity.

Here, friends, we have a restaurant dedicated to melted cheese. In addition to the traditional Swiss Raclette cheese melted over potatoes, grilled cheese is also on offer. Alert your inner five year old.

Semsom has singlehandedly changed the lunchtime situation at Infatuation HQ. The new Astor Place takeout spot does an excellent Middle Eastern bowl – rice, lettuce, and the protein of your choice with pickles, sauces, and other toppings.

There are so many little East Village wine bar restaurants you might think we’d get tired of them. You’d be wrong. This new one, on St. Marks, has a Mediterranean bent.

Rosie’s is the new Mexican restaurant from the people behind Cookshop. With an excellent outdoor area and all the windows opened to the street, you’ll want to hang out here with a taco and some tequila.

Guess what Virginia’s is? Why yes, it’s a new East Village restaurant run by some people who used to work in fancy restaurants. We appreciate the hustle. This time the food’s American, and very good. Hit this one before somebody blows up its spot.

Right across the street from Noreetuh, you’ll find Oiji, a modern Korean spot with chefs who also used to work in some fancy kitchens. You’ll also probably find pretty significant waits for a table, but it’ll be worth it.

The city’s first upscale Hawaiian restaurant is a tiny little spot on 1st Avenue. The chefs and owners come from Per Se, so don’t expect a luau. Do expect some very interesting seafood dishes.
