The four square blocks of Hillsboro Village nestle snugly between Vanderbilt and Belmont. Get happily lost among jewelry troves, posh boutiques, a leather goods shop, a cutlery, and an artisan bazaar. Pancake Pantry and Fido Coffeehouse make for delicious pit stops as well. And don't miss Nashville's Smallest Art Gallery, a 30-inch, solar-panel-rigged display case next to Peabody Shoe Repair.

Lots of cities have neon, but only Nashville has Hatch Show Print. Started in 1879, the iconic concert promoters still hand-set orders and work on 60-year-old letterpresses. Musicians consider Hatch posters a rite of passage. You can visit the Broadway shop and buy the best $15 trip gift ever.

A house of blue jeans in the 12South 'hood, Imogene + Willie is the fashion talk of the town. Carrie and Matt Eddmenson opened the shop in 2009, and they‘ve been selling the store's heritage style to musicians like Brooks and Dunn, Matt Wertz, and Kings of Leon ever since. Matt and Carrie's custom denim line is measured and sewn on-site in a throwback gas station. "Nashville digs the not-trying-hard look," Matt says.

Follow the aroma of freshly griddled waffle cones to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, a cool Ohio-based concept that just opened here. The ice cream is made from the milk of grass-fed cows and relies on seasonal fruit and other top-quality ingredients, resulting in a line out the door.

When it's time to channel your inner Stevie Nicks, head for this music and clothing store that features posters of vintage rockers, such as Joan Jett, Heart, and Fanny's All Girl Band. But the main draw are the Luna, Fender, and other makes of acoustic guitars and handmade ukuleles, as well as a small but well-chosen collection of men's and women's vintage clothes.
